Cara Paolina.
L’aspetto di Pisa mi piace assai più di quel di Firenze. Questo lungarno è uno spettacolo così bello, così ampio, così magnifico, così gaio, così ridente che innamora: non ho veduto niente di simile nè a Firenze nè a Milano, nè a Roma, e veramente non so se in tutta l'Europa si trovino vedute di questa sorta.
Vi si passeggia poi nell'inverno con gran piacere, perchè v'è quasi sempre un'aria di primavera: sicchè in certe ore del giorno quella contrada è piena di mondo, piena di carrozze e di pedoni: vi si sentono parlare dieci o venti lingue, vi brilla un sole bellissimo tra le dorature dei caffè, delle botteghe piene di galanterie e nelle invetriate dei palazzi e delle case, tutte di bella architettura. Nel resto poi, Pisa è un misto di città grande e di città piccola, di cittadino e di villereccio, un misto così romantico, che non ho veduto mai altrettanto. A tutte le alte bellezze, si aggiunge la bella lingua.

I like Pisa's appearance much more than that of Florence. This lungarno is such a beautiful spectacle, so broad, so magnificent, so cheerful, so charming that it falls in love: I have not seen anything like it either in Florence or in Milan, or in Rome, and I really don't know if in all of Europe it is find views of this sort.
One then walks in the winter with great pleasure, because there is almost always an air of spring: so that at certain times of the day that district is full of world, full of carriages and pedestrians: you hear ten or twenty people talking to you tongues, there shines a beautiful sun among the gildings of cafes, of shops full of gallantry and in the glazes of buildings and houses, all of beautiful architecture. In the rest then, Pisa is a mixture of a big city and a small city, of a citizen and of a villereccio, a mixture so romantic, that I never saw the same. To all high beauties, the beautiful language is added.

Qué tranquilo se encontraba
en ese rincón escondido
el bello templo del amor
donde Venus, su diosa,
esbelta allí se encontraba.
Mas esta tranquilidad
buena era para aquella
que sentada a sus pies
con un libro se entretenía.
Y si más adelante miramos
había un caballero
