What a roller coaster ride this was on a dirt road in the countryside. If you look closely in the far hills at the very top, you will see the road continue. It's almost hidden by the mist. Second Place winner, Daarklands group, for "lonely country roads" challenge, July-August 2021.

When I reached Santa Monica Pier, it was quite late, and yet I saw more people flocking to the beach than leaving. The roller-coaster never ceased to frighten the screaming kids and the solar-powered ferris wheel never stopped spinning. Kids were out of school. Summer just officially began. Night was young.
Surely you and your very lovely lady have not so soon forgotten about that first ride you two had on what was then ‘The Manhattan Express’ Roller Coaster. Sure — It’s been more 20 years ago, but no doubt y’all will never forget that rough and rousing roller coaster ride on those bumpy and rickety wooden tracks! So tell the truth! How do you feel now since they’ve replaced the wooden rails with much smoother steel rails, and changed the name to ‘The Big Apple 🍎’ Roller Coaster? Are you less scared?!?! 😳
Are you feeling up to taking a ride? 😧😅
Behold, the eerieness and creepyness that is, Astroland, Coney Island in the wintertime its dead silent, untill the rides whisper to you in the wind, and then they scream to you in the wind... taken on recent travels to New York, America

Isn’t it amazing how after all the numerous weeks you’ve stayed here at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, that you’ve never been bothered by the roar and screaming from the Big Apple Roller Coaster? 😌 The roller coaster runs continuously day-and-night, but it has never kept you from getting a good night’s sleep! Actually you find the roar and the screams soothing. 😴😴😴
Enjoying the G-forces and screaming their heads off!

I'm still happy with it!

Sorry Gents — But you have no time to take a long ride on the Big Apple Roller Coaster. Your Flickr Friend is in town on six days of vacation and you need to get on up the street to the Fontainebleau Resort & Casino to do a meet-up. 😎🌞
And by the way — Welcome To Sin City!!😈
Gentlemen — Poolside Cabanas are booking at $320 for a full 9am to 5pm shift! So do you dare? 😎
So why don’t you whip out your ever trusty Apple iPod and open your MLife Mobile app! It shouldn’t take more than 15 seconds for you to click two or three buttons to book one of those black tent cabanas down there and have it ready for tomorrow morning! So do it!!
For what better lure can there be to get your very lovely lady to break her self-imposed 15 month Coronavirus Quarantine/Lockdown than to splash a dozen or more pool cabana images on your Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr. And do it in the mornings when you know she’s monitoring your social media accounts! 😏
So do you dare? 🤔

Gentlemen — Are you desperately trying to devise a really Big Climax for your seven day Las Vegas Strip Story? So what did you learn from your last Vegas Visit four months ago? Back then, four months ago, your Big Climax was a visit to a new restaurant, as well as a visit to a swanky new whiskey lounge. So what are you going to do this time? Nightclubs aren’t operating! Some hotel/casinos are hinting at shutting down on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays! Some of the biggest restaurants on the Strip aren’t open yet! Most big stage production shows are closed — some permanently! So how do you propose to write the Big Highlight to your Vegas Venture Story? 🤔
So it’s good that you made the effort to wake up at 6am! This will give you a head start this morning with exploring the Fabulous Las Vegas Strip. You need to select where you want to do dinner tonight and tomorrow night, and you need to decide where you want to have your Departure Day Lunch! And maybe you’ll want to try another ride on the Big Apple Roller Coaster!
So let’s get started! 😎😷
Back when a tenner could get you fish, chips and a ride on the Big One. A glorious day in Blackpool – donkeys on the beach, death-defying thrills on the rollercoaster, and a cable-suspended group hug in mid-air. Add in a cheerful tram and a very pointy tower, and you’ve got the seaside in its full eccentric glory.
Sorry Gentlemen — But you don’t have time to ride the Big Apple 🍎 Roller Coaster this afternoon. Your Flickr Friend, Thomas Hawk, and his family, flew in yesterday, booked a luxurious suite at the Fontainebleau, and they have a one day head-start on you. So you need to boot up your Las Vegas Monorail mobile pass, and make your way four miles up the Strip to the Fontainebleau. 😎🌞

Life Is A Big Apple Roller Coaster. Didn’t you learn that lesson when the Governor of Nevada shut down the Las Vegas Strip in February of 2020 because thousands of people a day were dying from the Coronavirus Global Pandemic. And when the Strip was allowed to reopen in May of 2020, there were numerous very strict rules! You came back in May of that year, and the people who chose to live by those strict new rules, managed to fly into Las Vegas and learned how to ‘Live Las Vegas Coronavirus Style.’ Everyone else stayed home and learned to survived at home. May is a special month for you. It’s been four years since Las Vegas came back. So how well have you celebrated Its return? And can you do much better next time? 🤔 We shall see. 😏
In the meantime, how about you taking a spin or two or three on the Big Apple Roller Coaster! How long has it been since you and your very lovely lady last strapped in for a ride! Probably too long... 😁
At the recently-held West Niagara Fall Fair up on the Niagara Escarpment just South of Grimsby, the usual array of rides and games of chance (skill as they like to call it) were available. One of these was a ride offering a sort of mini-roller coaster ride suited to small children and this ride sported an entrance facade with a decidedly pseudo-Egyptian theme complete with an array of pharonic symbology including (of course) coiled cobras. I love the in-your-face colour and lights, especially after dark when the full effect is on display. - JW

PP in free Open Source GIMP: adjust the tone curve to pull up the mid-tones slightly and then pin the curve at about 20% to the right of the left end and slightly pull up the darkest shadow areas, slightly increase overall contrast slightly and then do some local contrast enhancement in the centre area,, sharpen, save, scale to 6000x4000, sharpen slightly, add fine black and white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
Wasn’t it wonderfully convenient the hotel had your guest room ready for immediate occupation by the time your flight touched down at Harry Reid International Airport just after noon! However, if you have any doubts regarding the early availability of your hotel guest room, you can always skip the mobile phone check-in and go directly to the reception counter and discreetly do the $20 check-in trick. 💰😏 Maybe they will upgrade you to a Penthouse Suite!!
The West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada offers more than just shopping and restaurants. Galaxyland is an indoor amusement park that has exciting rides like the roller coaster.

Recently, we trouped off to Simcoe, Ontario to visit the Norfolk County Fall Fair and Horse Show, which is probably the best fall fair in Ontario and one of the last as the fair season winds down on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. On this ride, the overall colours changed in cyclic pattern so I waited for the green cycle to coincide with the young ladies exiting the ride, to capture this image. The gentleman holding the gate looks like he has seen far too many of these neon nights. Love the in-your-face colour of the midways at these fairs - JW

Taken using a hand-held Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, Auto WB, ISO900 (Auto ISO), Aperture priority mode, f/2.5, 1/160 sec. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: scale image to 9000x6000, set exposure to approx 1.25 stops higher (brighter) than as-shot, adjust contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, increase vibrance, enable shadows-highlights and bring up highlights to recover detail in the lights, sharpen, save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: load the image onto three layers and add a black/transparent layer mask to each. On one layer use a soft-edged white brush to paint in the music panel lower left, on another paint in the faces and on the last paint in the magenta neon lights along the top, then using the relevant adjustment layer adjust the tone and contrast of each of the areas representing the music panel, faces and magenta neon lights so each looks good, create new working layer from visible results, do some minor fine-tuning to saturation contrast and overall brightness, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000x4000, sharpen slightly, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
Life can be like a roller coaster...
And just when you think you've had enough, and your ready to get off the ride and take the calm, easy merry-go round... You change your mind, throw you hands in the air and ride the roller coaster all over again. That's exhilaration...that's living a bit on the edge...that's being ALIVE.

I took this image when we visited Coney Island last month (yes, I am so behind in editing my images). It's a window display where you put a quarter and it plays for few minutes. The whole display is so lovely and I really wanted to take it home. This is one of the pic when I realized later (of course, when I was already in the subway) that I should've used smaller aperture. But in overall, I am pleased at how this image turns out.

Is anyone else getting a wild roller-coaster ride for statistics like me? "Blue nude" and "Saturday abstract ~ #109"
have been getting an especially large number of views. What is going on? Does anybody know?

Gentlemen — You have returned to your Fabulous Las Vegas Strip Home! This destination has been your home for the last six days! So take a moment or two to marvel up at the nine towering hotel towers looming high before you — can you name them all: Lever House, Empire, Water Street, Century, Seagram, New Yorker, Liberty Plaza, Chrysler, and the CBS Building! 😃
Welcome Home!!
