The Barrel Roll
Purple Martins are back squabbling and challenging for nest boxes at Bombay Hook NWR. During the action I saw this martin do a barrel roll - it actually flew a short distance inverted. I have never seen before, but I saw a couple of others do the same thing so I wonder if this part of fighting or display behavior.
I would appreciate any information on this interesting behavior

I enjoyed rolling around on the ground in the nearby woods earlier this week, photographing the beautiful lesser celandine punching through the leaf litter. I love the pose of this one, stretching up to catch the light filtering through the trees.
days roll by, is a track by Augustines, and is fine for this mid tide shot of Temple Bay. As the days roll by, so the tide washes in and ebbs, always leaving a new beach to discover.
I saw this (table-top) Christmas tree made up of rolled paper. I had never seen such a thing. (I took a close up so you can't tell it's a Christmas tree.)
