I'm still in Beijing but glad to have saved some of my previous photos in USB as I still don't have a China photo ready for upload.
Before reaching some interesting caves in the walls of the canyon, we had to go through this passage.
Gem Lake Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Gem Lake is very small, only 0.2 acres (0.08 hectares) and is about 5 ft (1.5 m) deep. Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Paid a visit to Hengistbury Head hoping for a sunrise to appear but it was rather grey and stormy. So spent a fun half hour on the the Long Gnoyme trying not to get soaked by the incoming waves.
At top of Little Stony Kill Falls. Flow varies. View over Rondout Valley toward the Catskills: Mombaccus Mtn, Ashokan High Top, Ticetonyk, Mtn, Tonshi Mtn, and part of Devil's Path.
After our failed attempt at Jumbo Pass due to a mud/snow slide, we still wanted to squeeze out the most out of our day. Big shoutout to my wonderful wife @laura.j66 who not only just got deeply disappointed by her hike not working out but then promptly shuttled me up to a nearby FSR which in addition to she had to reverse out of for almost a km 👏.
Sadly the FSR was locked with a yellow gate and I had to pedal all the way up the horrendous 6km with grades of 30% most of the way. Not sure I would do it again. The trail was an awesome old school rock and root gnar. Super technical & high consequences if you mess up. It was worth the climb to tick this one off my list but I think Newtsac has definitely more value for your buck, not to mention shuttleable.

Last goodie from our stay at Nelson. After I did Morning Sickness I wanted to explore something new and Doz Slabs fit the bill. There was no way of really accessing it unless you are coming down from Hitman so I kinda had to hike a bike it from the Redfish Campground.
Doz Slabs looked like a really cool fun trail in its prime, sadly most of the wooden features were taken down but there were still lots of rock slabs around and one skinny. The last rock slab took some time to commit to but I did it. Not only did you have to lean over the drop so you avoid the tree, you also had to bunny hop over a small crack in the slab before sliding the main slab down. Didn’t soil my pants either.

After our beautiful family hike I was racing to get back in time to beat the storm that never really materialized. The weather forecast looked nasty right up until our departure, so I was worried I wouldn’t get in another ride in Nelson.
The beauty about the Kokanee Creek Campground is that it’s right across the best trails Nelson has to offer ( in my humble opinion ). Newtsac is always a good time, steep, loose, and lots and lots of rock slabs. There is this one massive jump/drop that I still need to tick off but for that I first need grow my second ball back. Its the kind of trail that if you only would have time to ride one trail this would be the one. Highly highly recommended.

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. This slab is a form known as "gold sheen obsidian". The scene looks like a fiery lava flow on a starry night. It's actually about a half inch across.
I order these rock slabs from dandyslab.com. This piece was added as an extra that I did not order. I don't remember what type of rock it is. I love the mid-century mod abstract look. The actual size of the long edge is about 1/4 inch.
Chained in from all sides, no escape for these granite slabs. Thought they could just stroll out the front door and roll down the street - back to the cliffs and shale. No escape from a long drawn out sentence - doomed to lie on peoples patios and hold up houses.
Barbed Granite sits in stacks, shoulder to shoulder - looking glumly over the wires.

Finally got to check off “Hammered Cow”. Last time I attempted it I was met by 3 - 4 feet of snow. This time around it was in prime condition but holy shit did it frustrate the heck out of me. The climbing trails were pretty decent but you also have the option to shuttle. I wanted to explore the full trail from top to bottom and boy was that a waste of time and effort. Basically just 100m stretches of steep rocky descents and then getting lost in a network of cross country skiing trails. The real trail pretty much started halfway. But man oh man, it’s as if someone teleported me to the Nelson North Shore. One of the finest old school trails I have ridden in the valley and such a concentration of rock slabs I have not encountered the likes in the Okanagan yet. It self proclaims to be one of the hardest trails in the valley, which is pushing it a bit but I t’s fun as hell but sadly the fun is short lived. I passed some other black lines that also looked and sounded promising. Will for sure return to explore some more.
