Out of Iowa comes Christian death metal band A Past Unknown. Heavy, hard, and guttural is about the only way I can really describe their music. Frontman Grant uses a combination of growling along with singing while guitarist Nick provides backing vocals in many verses and most choruses. I loved their guitar work throughout their set as it was very tight and well played. At one point, Trever was even playing a song while he had a broken A string, which was definitely interesting to watch as the missing string seemed to have no aural impact on the song. A Past Unknown were on a nationwide tour that has now finished although, I hear they are now in the studio writing new material so they can go back out and tour. I can say that if they return to South Florida, I will be in the crowd.
