The famous Paris Dakar inspires many to take to the wilds in their off-road machines. This shot is of the considerably less famous (actually totally unknown) Mount Gambier-Stawell rally. Taking part entirely within the wilds of my living room, this shot from the race features the mighty Toyota Landcruiser LC80 with a backdrop of a western Victorian sunset taken in the Grampians region.

This features a new vehicle to the stable. It is a very large 1/10th scale remote control Toyota Landcruiser rock crawler by FMS. It comes complete with a driver who has not introduced himself to me yet, so I do not know his name. You will no doubt see much more of this mean looking mystery man and the Cruiser in many adventures this year. This was the first 'outing' after buying it earlier today!

Luke was about to test the deep water capabilities of the big Landcruiser before heading off on what looks like a bit of an outback camping trip, but sensibly decided to take heed of the warning signs.

Taken at the boat-ramp at Valley Lake which lies alongside the more well known Blue Lake here in Mount Gambier.

A semi forced perspective 10 image hand-held focus stack of the 1/10th scale model radio control Toyota Landcruiser LC80 by FMS. Taken and processed with the Canon R10 and RF 35mm macro lens.

This car will evolve continually as I buy more scale accessories for it. Already, it sports new wheels and tyres, with yet another set of more normal road tyres on the way. The go-faster colourful stripes may or may not stay, along with the 'in your face' Toyota name on the side. The range of 1/10th scale goodies is amazing. (You can even buy a 1/10th scale caravan!) A fun project to work on and to drive! It's a hoot!

Definitely not in the mechanical category. A clever lizard who watched me pass by.

While out walking.

This was on Nation Public Lands Day 2016, This is actually an old section of road, at about the 1800s/1900s turn over. The road actually followed the wash and has deteriorated over the many years. This group has gotten their permit and are negotiating the rough terrain. The Vehicles have highly specialized suspension, and this isn't even the worst of the route. I myself was hiking through the area and was not with the off roaders. I actually made it The End of the canyon and a good way back to catch them about half way. That's how hard this is to navigate by four wheel.

Out on the Berringer Glacier, you really need a Samzuda Lionel (aka 'Snow Beetle') to get you to your destination.

Whether that's a medical rescue or an ill-advised Camp out, this thing will get you there - and back.

Big props to Andrew Somers for his amazing 'Spehs Truck' and its inspiration for creating the cockpit on this one.

I think Jeepinpixie's Jeep should join in here.

I've been enjoying and photographing this tree for a while now, so I'm always looking for slightly different compositions. (I generally try to resist the voice in my head telling me that I've already made every photo there is to make.)

For this photo I got about as low as I could get, and even though I had taken the low approach in the past. Lying on my belly on the ground, I was struck by how heroic the tree looked from my lying-at-its-feet vantage point. Rather than the twisted Yoda figure I was used to shooting, the tree transformed into something that stood proudly in the face of incredible adversity, like a Boris Vallejo movie poster. (Think of the image of a muscle-bound Chevy Chase standing proudly over two women while clutching a tennis racket in the movie poster for "National Lampoon's Vacation.") That image is still all I see when I look at this photo.

This was a single exposure, taken about half an hour after sunset. Surprisingly, some of the low clouds still had some color in them. The pine tree itself really soaked up the sunset's diffused, reddish light during this long exposure. Also worth noting is the brightest "star," nearly straight above the whitebark pine, is the planet Saturn.

6" longarm suspension, 35" Good year tires, 4:88 gears. Yes, it gets used for what its built for! more pix on the way!

An awesome Willy's at a local car show this past weekend. The show had the usual variety of muscle cars and classics *yawn* but this beast really stood out and stole the show for me.
