This robot was in a downtown Kalamazoo, MI store window in December 2001. It was so funny and so colorful as well as so different from anything I had ever seen before that I couldn't help taking a photo of it. I had traveled to Grand Haven, MI by myself (1st time I ever flew anywhere by myself) and my friend picked me up at the airport. The reason I had gone after only just being there in September with my husband was because an 11x14 matted and framed print of 1 of my South Haven, MI lighthouse photos was hung in a MI gallery's Christmas exhibit from the 1st week in November through just before Christmas. As it was a first for me and I couldn't be sure it would ever happen again, I wanted to be there for what they called the gallery hop which is held the first week of each month.
It was a Sunday when I took this photo and Gary wasn't picking me up until noon, so I had walked up from the bed and breakfast inn where I was staying to take some photos of downtown Kalamazoo, in particular the glass reflective building called the Standard Federal Bank Building. This was on my way there!

IN DEFENSE OF SCIENCE
We live in a time of mind-boggling change and technological advance. Cars drive themselves. Robots perform surgery. Phones can probe the connections of the universe. And humans edit the molecular instructions that shape their very humanity. Yet even as we hurtle through this futuristic present, swept up in discovery and innovation, a surprisingly powerful force is pushing back from the horizon: the fear of science. That force has rallied to challenge the foundation of science itself, undermining scientific research—and, yes, public health and safety. Now, more than ever, the field requires investment and talent, both of which are imperiled. How can we most effectively respond to this assault? What can be done to restore trust in science and fact? And how can we promote investment in science, and draw a new generation of enterprising thinkers to the field?

So I thought I'd try something different icing wise and tried a vienna cream icing recipe… well… it was okay… they would look much better if I had a piping doovey wacka. Call me boring but I would prefer regular "icing mixture & water" icing any day. It's much easier to work with and doesn't taste over the top & woha buttery.
