090314 - Duluth - Andrew Yun, a mentor for theWirecats team members from Westminster, frantically tries to correct a malfunction in their robot that developed before their quarterfinal match. The had to call a time out and could have forfeited if they hadn't been able to improvise a repair. The F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics competition 2009 Peachtree Regional was held at the Gwinnett Center. More than 480 high school students from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas competed in a game called LUNACY. Two teams of three students navigate their robots to collect and score balls in trailers attached to their opposing teams robots. Teams have been designing, building and programming autonomous and remote-control robots for six weeks and showcased their work at the tournament.
