Wounded troops listen to panelists from The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), including a special address from Acting Secretary Gordon Mansfield. The VA was a key partner is providing programming for the conference. While the recovery process is long and arduous for a service member, it is just as difficult for the family. The Coalition and its partners recognize this, and so much of educational seminars throughout the week are on topics rarely addressed from their perspective including PTSD, relationships and coping strategies.

Oh, poor me, I deserve all the pampering and treats and petting and attention I can get! Yes I just went through an operation and now, I have to recover on the sofa and have my mom feed me pork chops. My mom said something about me being an actress. What's an actress? Everyone should send me lots of treats and goodies and toys because you should all feel sorry for me, ok?
Love,
Penny

i don't. i'm a soap and water girl. i do this maybe once a year, twice if i'm feeling vain. but as i get older (and hopefully wiser) and with the cold weather getting harsh on not-so-supple skin, i find myself visiting shoppers drug mart more often these days...
UV-protection or not? anti-aging or classic? woe, the many, many choices!
Barb Phillips is also President of the Ashland-Wayne-Holmes Central Labor Council. She walked with Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola on the first day of his "Road to Recovery" walk.
A self-portrait taken with Dad as Mom looks at us, while staying with relatives after discharge from hospital. A 14-cm tumor was removed from Mom's womb in a surgery that overshot by more than 6 hours when mom complained of bloating in her stomach some months ago. She is back at the hospital every weekly for labs and chemotherapy treatment for the next 6 months to treat her ovarian cancer. Some common side-effects of chemotherapy includes loss of appetite, depression, hair loss and soreness of the body. While not in-between treatment, both Mom and Dad stay with relatives, with everybody chipping in to help.
Wonderful Husband and I went with G to visit friends in Cosham. One of them had knee replacement surgery last week - this was his first outing.
We had lunch at The Churchillian, a pub with wonderful views over Portsmouth Harbour. Too misty for a decent photo of the view though.

a family selling stones by the side of the road sandwiched between the chaos of the smoky street and the calm of the salty sea
a road trip all over the country side with smells of fresh fish and meat melding with diesel fuel
a cloudy sunset blessed with warm rain, humidity making my skin ooze with healthy sweat
two dear friends sharing stories about their home, their town, their lives
i am grateful.
This is my hospital's entry in the Huntsville Botanical Garden's Scarecrow Trail. We chose "Road to Recovery" as our theme with a newly admitted sick patient on the left, a mid-recovery patient in the middle and a fully-recovered patient on the right. Over 70 scarecrow displays will be decorating the Garden during the months of September and October.
