I told you I took a bunch of pics of this place..;)

TGIF is just around the corner..:)

A sunrise view of Olin Calk and Dan Smith's roadrunner sculpture overlooking Las Cruces with the Organ Mountains in the background. This view of the city is so cool I'll have to return and see how it looks around sunset! It's a rest stop off on the I-10 and they let you spend the night if you have an RV, van or even just your car! Created from a series of 12 images.

The roadrunner is the official state bird of New Mexico, which explains why artist Olin Calk built a giant recycled roadrunner -- 20 feet tall and 40 feet long -- in Las Cruces in 1993. Back then it stood at the city landfill, and was made exclusively of items salvaged from it: Olin's way to call attention to what he called, "consumption, recycling, and just looking at stuff we throw away."

In early 2001, Olin stripped off the old junk, replaced it with new junk, and moved the roadrunner to a rest stop along Interstate 10, just west of the city. www.roadsideamerica.com/story/14700

Thanks Butch for letting me know about this location!

Captured this Chrysler at the Hackberry General Store!

Hackberry is a small village in Arizona best known for the Hackberry General Store. There is a lot to see when you visit the store. There are many vintage cars outside, and the place is full of gadgets, signs, mementos, billboards and artifacts from the 1940s through the 1960s. It’s a journey through time.

This unique covered bridge for bikes is made from the shell of an old school bus. It is located over Caney Creek near Prestonsburg, KY.

Just a little punchy processing to bring out the best in the world's largest pistachio nut! Making its solo appearance and perhaps it reminds you of Little Shop of Horrors? As seen just a bit north of Alamogordo, New Mexico.

I've been meaning to come out here for many years to get a night time photo of the lighthouse. The current nearly full moon was a good excuse to make that happen.

This historic structure is on US highway 6. The bridge over the Platte River is where the road rises at the right horizon of the photo.

The name "Linoma" comes from a combination of the names of the nearby cities of Lincoln and Omaha. If you zoom in on the name you'll notice that the "N" is outlined in Red. This mimics the symbol that the University of Nebraska - Lincoln uses for it's sports teams.

A few years ago there was severe flooding along the Platte River which destroyed nearly all of the nearby buildings at Linoma Beach but the Lighthouse survived. The roadway in the foreground was underwater for about a month.

"The base of the lighthouse was a gas station, built in 1938. The 110-foot-tall tower was added the following year. There are ten floors inside, and the builders may have wanted the lighthouse to become a novelty motel, but that never happened. The lighthouse worked as a real lighthouse for years, with a spiral staircase to the top and a bright neon beacon, but it gradually fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Nearing collapse, the lighthouse (and its surrounding RV park) were bought in 2010, and its restoration began in the summer of 2013. In 2003, Linoma Beach was listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, and the lighthouse was especially significant as a representation of early 20th Century roadside architecture." Found on a roadside near Novato, California

Adapted from roadsideamerica.com:

A sign of colossal scale is perched on the roof of this BP gas station. A giant sign of some sort has been on this roof since 1932. It was updated in late 2019; it looks much as it has since the 1970s. The current sign is 40 feet high and 60 feet wide.

This was captured from a park type area. Thanks for getting a look with me.

Paul Bunyan has upped his roots and now calls Kentucky his home! He previously lived outside an auto shop in Chicago where he lost his feet. He also lived at a campground in Wisconsin at some point. He is now completely restored (and re-footed) in all of his fiberglass glory and stands tall outside this lumber yard.

This is a take off the Infinity Room at the House on the Rock near Spring Green,WI.The popular attraction opened in 1960 to spite architect Frank Lloyd Wright who was not impressed with HOTR creator Alex Jordan's work.Jordan kept filling the place with artifacts and creations that it now takes $30 and 3+ hours to go through.I had not been there since the early '80s-the Infinity Room and the Heritage of the Sea had been added since then and were both interesting. It is a 3 hours unlike you have ever experienced before with the actual house the LEAST interesting part of the tour...

An interesting take of the place here...

This intersection on Devils Hollow Road is home of the famous Milltown Shoe Tree. It started as one shoe tree about 20 or 25 years ago (it first appeared on RoadsideAmerica.com in the year 2000). The original tree was struck by lighting around 2005. Since then it has grown to become a group of shoe trees at this intersection. The cross street was even renamed Shoe Tree Lane.

I last photographed this shoe tree about five years ago. It's amazing how much it has grown since then! The shoes almost form a perfect circle as they hang off the branches.

PS: Don't worry if you get lost. Just roll down your window and smell the breeze, you'll find it!

Some great neon captured at Tepee Curios . . .

Tee Pee Curios is one of the only remaining curio shops in New Mexico. Starting out as a gas and grocery store in the 1940’s when Route 66 was only two lanes, they lost their gas pumps with the widening of the road . . The Tee Pee Curios has all of your souvenir needs from Route 66 items, New Mexico, pottery, t-shirts, jewelry, postcards and more. They have the best Route 66 souvenirs!

. . A great shop and terrific photo op.
