Between the dunes of Najd a city is found
Within aridity, gardens and rivers surround
a city established on principles profound
on oath of a king and a scholar renowned
a mission hailed for such achievements abound
to return people to the real faith so sound
your people's hospitality makes humanity astound
their sincere generosity elicits a world confound
Oh Riyadh Sun in your rays i have indeed browned
in your pleasant warmth i have eagerly drowned
From 3olaya to ta7liya, Worood to Rabwa and round
sensing your hue your color your flavor that dumbfound
Enjoining good and forbidding evil bringing around
a concsiousness of piety and a fear of Allah compound
May Allah protect your people your religion your ground
under the umbrella of Truth may He Almighty us enround
-MAK
I thank all of you who always make my stay there memorable
I ask Allah to guide your people and make them ambassadors
to the true faith. May He unite us all on the common ground
of the testimony of the Oneness of the Creator ,,, the greatest
bounty of all ... Islam

President Barack Obama waves as he boards Air Force One at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. for the flight to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, June 2, 2009. Air Force One departed from Dulles instead of Andrews Air Force Base as it needed a longer runway because of the fuel load required to make the trip non-stop. I've a cousin who lives in Saudia Arabia, couple of months back while chatting with her on the phone, she mentioned "Girls of Riyadh" and the uproar it caused and got banned in Saudi Arabia. After talking to her I head straight to Barnes & Nobles and bought this book :)
It's the story of four women Sadeem, Gamrah, Michelle and Lamees from the "velvet" class of Saudi Arabia and their exploits of marriage, romance, and relationships in their early 20s. They have anything they could possibly desire; designer clothes, cell phones, anonymous chat rooms, and plenty of money. But what they don't have is freedom. Only one of the friends finds true love and fosters a successful marriage. The others are forced into the subservient roles expected of them in their society. One friend cannot marry the man she loves because his mother finds her too Americanized. Another is divorced by her husband not long into their ill-fated marriage, leaving her pregnant and without prospects of ever re-marrying. One becomes disenchanted with love after a failed marriage and a dead-end relationship. Author has given a good insight of their struggle to navigate their love lives through Saudi culture and personal beliefs. You will find this book interesting, funny and heart-wrenching at times. There is beautiful love poetry from Nizar Qabbani in this book. I have heard of this poet before, but never read any of his books. The quotes author used by Nizar Qabbani was superb and left me aww-struck.
