If no disposal instructions are provided and no take-back program is available, throw the medicine in the household trash. But first, take the medicine out of its original container and mix with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter. Then put the mixture in a sealable bag or disposable container with a lid, such as an empty margarine tub, to prevent the medicine from leaking out of a garbage bag. This is a good way to dispose of both prescription and non-prescription medicines. Read this FDA Consumer Update: www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm101653.htm

This will help protect your identity and the privacy of your personal health information. Read this FDA Consumer Update: www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm101653.htm
