Took a risk driving the 45 Miles to Bamburgh today for Sunrise, forecast was iffy to say the least but sometimes you hit on lucky. Cloud broke enough to give enough colour for a decent few photos and the rain held off until I got back to my car, nice morning
These Gibraltar apes have really gotten around over the years, mainly because they know no fear. It was amazing to watch the cheeky beasties in real life.
The original photo was a piece of driftwood on a Lake Michigan beach. Photoleap was used to add elements of photos that I have taken.
The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and in doing so, eliminate the other players.
Most shots on the internet of the Beara Bowl was shot down from near the water, but because of my bad knee I couldn't climb down there without risking a bad fall. So I shot this from the road. On the opposite side of the bay is Dursey Island and Garinish point.
Getting a lot of calls on my phone lately that are flagged as spam risks. Love the forewarning. It just makes life easier not engaging in unwanted calls. I only wish that other aspects of life could be similarly monitored. Would be great if the people I encounter would come with warnings. Just imagine if a message would appear over their heads indicating risk of rude or arrogant behavior or bad intentions. Same might apply to situations that are likely to result in adverse consequences. Intuition carries you only so far in life. Oftentimes problems aren't realized until you wade in too deep. Extrication becomes that much more difficult.
This vacant house provided needed no such 'spam risk' warning. Its issues were abundantly revealed in the brilliant glare of a midday February sun. The houses around here, for the most part, possess a rural charm. They just look and feel right, even if somewhat run down. At least in three seasons of the year. But winter has a way of stripping away that veneer of sensibility. Absent the verdant summer foliage, all the warts are revealed. Misshapen trees, multiple saplings growing up around the foundation, tangled overgrowth, and capped off here with dagger-like icicles dangling from the rain gutters. The village has been transformed over recent weeks by multiple layers of snow. The result is a largely monochromatic landscape. The dominant cycles are sun and cloud. Cloudy days flatten out the view, leaving an impression of dull and dreary. Sunny days transform these views into high contrast with seemingly more shadows than there are objects to cast them. My pick is the sunny format. I love the utter complexity of scenes like this, and there ability to cut through the snow blindness and behold what's really before me.
This photo, taken 15+ years ago was miserably blurred (yet shared here because of the city character and emotion captured).
Now with today's software capabilities I tried to bring it to decent quality and feel it's worth (re)posting?
Based upon the design of the Vahki, Bohrok and Baterra, the Haruru are considered to be the best of the best amongst artificial intelligence.
Gakama, the third of the three versions of Haruru, are considered to be the smartest of the bunch. They are able to come up with cunning plans, and always go for the options with the lowest risks. Efficient, cold and rational, the Gakama are the elite amongst the Haruru.
Now protecting the Turaga, what will happen with the Matoran Guards ? And are the Matoran sure that these robots can be trusted ?
This is now Canada's largest mural. Painted on an abandoned hospital in Sudbury Ontario by Risk. A portion is unfinished as Risk ran out of time after his equipment was stolen from the site on several occasions. This mural has sparked a real love/hate debate in the city.

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the global population in drastic ways. In many countries, older people are facing the most threats and challenges at this time. Although all age groups are at risk of contracting COVID-19, older people face significant risk of developing severe illness if they contract the disease due to physiological changes that come with ageing and potential underlying health conditions.
“Although the elderly are by far at the highest risk of dying due to COVID-19, the risk in middle age is still high.
The Case Fatality Rate (CFT) in the uk is currently 3.6%
for every 1000 reported cases 36 people die.

The mine chapel is unique as the last and only one preserved in Sweden. From the early 17th century, preserved in its original condition, but moved 150 m due to erosion risk.
Did you know that snakes are symbols of evil, fertility, healing, creativity, transformation, and more, depending on the culture or mythology? I love a symbol that can be interpreted any which way depending on your personal experience. I used the snake as fear. We all know what it feels like to be trapped by fear.
There is a reason I have "Fear is the mind killer" tattooed on my arm. Because fear used to rule me. I kept myself in a cage because I thought I wasn't strong enough to face whatever sat outside it. I watched my world change when I realized the only thing sitting outside of fear was life. What stays in the cage is death. It is the would-be, could-be, should-be of what we would do if fear didn't hold us in.
As Dune says (and you know I LIVE by Dune's principles):
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
That doesn't mean fear doesn't have a place. It's a warning. Sometimes of actual danger, but more often about risk. Risk is not only danger, it is opportunity, and I think we'd all live a little more fully if we recognized the difference.
On Thursday, participants met in a plenary on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation, followed by general plenary statements in morning and afternoon sessions. An informal plenary on the implementation of the outcomes of the Mid-term Review of the Hyogo Framework of Action (HPA) continued for a second day as well as a number of roundtables on managing watersheds, children for resilience, DRR and gender, DRR safety nets and mountains of risk. Winners of the UN Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction were announced in an evening ceremony.

First Moderate Risk in South
Central Nebraska & North Central Kansas.
A short jaunt down the severe weather risk area that day from Kearney Nebraska. Arrived in Alma Nebraska a tad behind schedule. The storm was already tornado warned and produced a tornado southwest of Alma. Storm was raging and I wasn't in a good place. Had to core punch this storm & headed east via Hwy 136. That's were this collection of images starts.
I was east bound on Hwy 136 that skirts the border of Nebraska / Kansas. This would take me deep into the Moderate Risk for that severe weather day. Instability was visible everywhere out in front of this storm. A Mammatus Cluster with a wall cloud was right in front of me while another supercell was producing tornadoes behind my current location.
Wicked Beautiful Supercell Structure as I got up close & personal. Especially by Franklin Nebraska where I encountered my first Tornado of 2022.
East then north out of Red Cloud Nebraska. The storms were still producing severe weather but was exiting fast out of my range. End this day with a spectacular view of the backside of the storm. A huge mammatus cloud cluster to enjoy as I was heading home!

The raindrops were trying had to fall. I had to full in tow hours between scans to lit the Radiation Dye go around my body. They were looking for a brake in my leg..they did find a creak in my lower femur. I was in plaster for six weeks so no more walking around the city for a while.

Zoos have evolved over the years to make the life of an animal less and less traumatic, although it is still a prison for entertainment. Unlike those parks where the work to preserve species and recover those at risk of extinction seems to me to be an extremely important social and environmental job. Seeing that there are still zoos where you see that it is simply a prison makes me sad and angry, seeing the aggressive attitude of many animals in these zoos already gives you an idea of the discomfort they feel there and in those conditions. I have mixed feelings, but I am clear that if they gave me the option to choose, I would release them all. I dedicate this series to all those animals that in one way or another live in a prison, or simply have their freedom stolen from them.
Always amazes me how far folks are willing to go risking themselves for an image. ..
