About these photo

I finally put together my ‘big project’ diorama! The window with sliding sashes and the window surround with shutters and balcony - some of you may remember it from way back! The cobbled ‘street’ is a wallpaper ‘sample’ from my local DIY store. The window panes are 1/12 scale and the surround was hand built by me using part of a photo frame for the ‘pediment’, shutters and surround built by hand from strips of wood and skewers and the little balcony I found on a kitcsh photo frame that I’m afraid went ‘under the hammer’ (literally!) I need to find that collage I did for this project and upload it again.

In the middle of a global pandemic, Minneapolis police arrested George Floyd, allegedly for using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy a pack of cigarettes. Officer Derek Chauvin held his knee to Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds while Floyd repeated, "I can't breathe." Chauvin, along with Officers Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, were immediately fired from the police force after videos surfaced. Authorities arrested these men and charged Chauvin with second degree murder and the other three with with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

The entire world knows of George Floyd's death and the entire world stands in shock at the police brutality we have witnessed. Despite the danger of the coronavirus, many have left their months-long quarantines to respectfully protest. But, most of all, the African American community is angry this savagery continues against Black men and women.

A president's role during times like this is to show empathy and unite the country. Donald Trump has done neither. Instead, he has advocated for "law and order," specifically strong-arm tactics meant to shut down any demonstrations against this atrocity. CNN's Anderson Cooper stated:

"What the president doesn’t seem to know or care is that the vast majority of those protesting, they too are calling for law and order. A black man killed with four officers holding him down, a knee to the neck, for more than eight minutes, more than three minutes which he was no longer conscious for. that is not law and order. That’s murder."

Sunday, May 31, as protesters stood in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, officers took the President to a bunker five stories below for his own protection. The next day, he was furious with news reports of his bunker hiding. In a call with governors he stated, "If you don't dominate, you're wasting your time. They're going to run all over you, you'll look like a bunch of jerks." That most demonstrations were peaceful meant little.

The next day, to prove his power and virility, Trump briefly addressed the nation from the Rose Garden declaring, "I am your President of law and order and an ally of all peaceful protesters." Yet minutes later, he walked across Lafayette Park to St. John's Episcopal Church, not to connect with Americans, but to pose with a Bible in front of the church. He said nothing. Instead, it was a signal to his base of evangelical supporters that he wasn't afraid to take action. To dominate.

To make this empty gesture, without warning, police fired rubber bullets and flashbang grenades at unsuspecting protestors to clear Trump's path to the church. It was unprecedented and unnecessary. As Cooper said that evening, "People have waited for days for this wannabe wartime president to say something. And this is what he says. And that is what he does."

This was reality TV at its most shocking and perverse, orchestrated by our reality TV strongman president. It was not only an insult to every law abiding American, but the summation of Donald Trump's presidency. All the while, the Republican Party was mute. This is what this country has become under Donald Trump. He thinks a Bible can save him in November. But even the elephants won't be able save this circus.

Not many Optare Excel sales these days but one late runner recently was P151CTV new to Trent Barton in October 1996 making it 30 years old this year ! Now registered DAZ4300 it also spent time at Kimes and as a non pcv in Barrow. Repainted dark green for its new role this year on a private site in Northamptonshire it is posed here after delivery.

Kumi: *look dripping with ‘duh’* “Yuri’s baking. Where else would I be?”

Lukas: “Not in my kitchen at six-frickin’-AM! *covers face* Dear Lord, you sounded just like her. I almost kissed you. The nightmares will be swift and brutal. The best I can hope for is amnesia. *grabs a rolling pin off the island, shoves it at Kumi* Here’s your opportunity to concuss me, Red. Merry early Christmas.”

Yuri: *rushes into the kitchen, arms full of supplies* “What in the name of Chanel is happening in here? If any of our neighbors were still abed, they are not any longer. Lukas, are you all right?”

Lukas: “I am decidedly not all right! I thought we agreed Kumi wasn’t allowed over before I’m suitably caffeinated. Why is she already here, anyway? I thought she was showing up with everybody else at nine!”

Yuri: “She rang the doorbell at half past five. Did you not hear it?”

Lukas: *rubs his forehead, expression agitated* “No...wait, I dreamed I heard a bell, but I didn’t realize it was actually happening in real life.”

Yuri: “What did she do? *turns to a still chuckling Kumi* What did you do?”

Kumi: “Exploited his early morning stupidity, pretended to be you, and almost kissed him over coffee. FYI, I’m trying real hard not to take his vehement disgust personally.”

Lukas: *crosses his arms, stiffly* “Your sister tried to take advantage of me.”

Yuri: *blinks at Kumi, taking in her smugness, then blinks at Lukas, taking in his indignation* “I see.” *turns her back, slowly begins unloading the baking supplies in her arms, shoulders shaking imperceptibly*

Lukas: “Babe, you better not be laughing, because this is not funny! I was close enough to count the freckles on her perfidious nose.” *glares at Kumi*

Kumi: “Ooooh, perfidious, huh? Sounds to me like a good scare jumpstarted your brain faster than any pot of coffee. You’re welcome. Also…stop undressing me with your eyes, Professor. Or at least wait until Yuri’s out of the room again. Rrrwar!” *makes pawing motions*

Lukas: *through clenched teeth* “Red, I’d shut up if I were you. I can barely tolerate you when I’m in a good mood and right now I’m mentally fitting you for a body bag.”

Kumi: “My second death threat of the day, and all by six in the morning. That’s pretty impressive, even for me.”

Lukas (frostily): “Yuri, are you done trying—and spectacularly failing—not to laugh?”

Yuri: *attempts to compose herself, turns around* “You are correct, Lukas. This is an utter breach of decorum. I am sure it gave you a terrible shock. Kumi, you should apologize for taking advantage of…*giggle breaks forth, slaps a hand over her mouth*
