He's the Ringmaster of the Bindlestiff Circus and one of its top geeks, who swallows swords and shoves screwdrivers up his nostrils, all of which he did that evening! In addition, there were a bunch of Burlesque dancers who all let their clothing fall away. In the darkness of the room, it would have been gauche to snap those shots! Sorry!
The pendants in this series are lovely fluid pieces, giving a sense of simplicity but the patterns inside reveal more complexity. I wanted to reflect this by putting them into pieces of jewellery that had more to their stringing than just a piece of chain.
They remind me on all the books I've read, all the films there are about the lives of carnival people - putting on a simple entertainment for the public but with tumultous private lives behind the scenes. The Ringemaster's Daughter brushes down her father's coat and dreams of commanding the ring herself. She sees herself in the middle, directing the acts as they swirl past her and secretly she is making herself an outfit in the same colour as her father's - bright red, with a black top hat.
This necklace is a small size (11.3 cms in diameter and 15.6cms from clasp to pendant). It rests slightly loser than a choker, with the pendant resting on the collarbone. It is fastened with a sterling silver lobster claw clasp and more links can be added to make it longer if you send me a convo on purchase. The pendant is attached with a wire wrapped bail.
Taken in 2014.
The ringmaster (red coat) at the Big Apple Circus tosses a coin into a street musician's hat. The show's schtick was that it all happened in Times Square, which made the trumpeter a street musician there. (As performed under a big tent in Boston's Government Center.)
