This is either rime ice or hoar frost. I missed the conditions under which it formed and did not get close enough to inspect the ice. Either way, it's a kind of frozen fog that made for a nice sight.
Although this was only a few miles from my house, we didn't have anything like it nearby and I didn't even know that it had occurred. I literally stumbled upon it on my way to a preserve for a walk. It was even cloudy that day, but the sun decided to poke out for a few minutes as I approached this particular spot. It was serendipitous luck.

Trees are totally covered in rime frost. Nice finding a NHO hanging around in them. If you zoom in it almost looks like he is smiling at me😊

We have had the most beautiful rimefrost the last couple of days. Today we were lucky enough to have it last all day as it stayed below zero and the sun never came out. Got my share of photos in and started with this.
We had four days of hoar frost and rime frost last week. It was foggy during the day and at night the temps dropped below freezing.
It was a photographers delight!

I have been posting a lot of pictures lately that I am not too keen on, only because I have not been able to get out to take shots with my hectic overtime work schedule. Hoping that the shots I saved for last because I didn't really care for turn out to be better than I expected. Here's to giving the underdog a fair chance, hehe.

The Eurasian weed, cut-leaf teasel (Dipsacus laciniatus - Dipsacaceae, formerly Caprifoliaceae), is common in the Wisconsin landscape. Although an invasive exotic species, the seedheads are attractive especially as they persist through winter. This specimen was covered in rime ice from the freezing fog that had been melting in the bright overcast sky along the WIOUWASH State Recreational Trail, a former railway line northwest of Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin.

On February 5, 2021we had another soft snowfall that came down as a beautiful, white, fluffy snow. Since I had my Canon at home I felt fortunate to be able to photograph nature at its finest, up close and personal in the woods and hillside behind my home. I discovered a new Phenomenon on Monday, January 4, 2021, while taking photo images around the outside of my home in Dubuque, Iowa. I admit I had never heard of Rime Ice/Frost before which is a white ice that forms when the water droplets in fog freeze to the outer surfaces of objects. It is often seen on tree tops atop mountains and ridges in Winter, when low-hanging clouds cause freezing fog. Officially the weather service defines rime ice as "an opaque coating of tiny, white, granular ice particles caused by rapid freezing of supercooled water droplets on impact with an object. These next images were taken on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 when the beautiful sunshine was shimmering off the Rime Ice/Frost before it all melted away.
