I think about my life gone by,
how it's done me wrong.
there ain't no escape for me now,
all of my rescues are gone....
long gone....
"Hazard" Richard Marx (1993)
Forgotten on the prairie of central Illinois....
What's left of downtown Hazard,NE. circa 2009-2010.Hazard was the location for Richard Marx's 1990's hit song of the same title. It told the story of a murder and the experience of a troubled young man being accused of it. It wisely left out who actually did the deed. The music video was one of the most popular for that year...
Richard Marx got an invitation some years later to be grand marshall at Sherman County's 4th of July fair in 1993,which he accepted. The town created a website later based on its notoriety, the incident though is totally fiction....

I WILL BE RIGHT HERE WAITING FOR YOU by RICHARD MARX
SECRET PLEASURES, HIDDEN TREASURES
When I find myself in crowded places
I walk the spaces inbetween
I don't avoid the cracks in pavements
this is where the silence reigns
wrapped softly in a cotton ball dream
secret feelings; gentle thoughts
waiting for a new life to begin
have you ever heard when silent rain falls
lands so softly on the grass
yet deafens on the rusty tin roof
blowing cobwebs from our minds
Hidden within a secret compartment
lies the key to treasures of my heart
will you find it; will you use it
tread carefully my precious love
you are perfect in my dreams
if I could walk this dream in daylight
if I could hold you in my arms
I might think I'd gone to Heaven
and succumbed to all your endless charms
take some sparkle from my loving eyes
fashion diamonds for a ring
I'll write a song for you my darling
and give two morning doves to sing
can you read between the lines
that's where my secret pleasures lie
you hold my heart within your hand
is my love mirrored in your eyes
layered love like layered petals
of sweet blooms; of roses pink
waiting for the chance to blossom
like an oasis offers life-giving drink
moist and tender; welcome rainfall
will you pass this way again
will you revive me from doubt and drought
will you give me sun and rain
now my thoughts are soft and drowsy
slumber comes as night falls down
come to me my prince in darkness
light my dreams with velvet gown
subtle as the night is tender
sleeping light yet dreaming deep
I offer you in sweet surrender
all that I am is yours to keep.

Right Here Waiting: by Richard Marx
Oceans apart day after day, and I slowly go insane...
I hear your voice on the line, but it doesn't stop the pain...
If I see you next to never, how can we say forever...
Wherever you go, whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you....
Until I find you by Richard Marx
How many dreams will end? How long can I pretend?
How many times will love pass me by, until I find you again? 'till I find you again.. ?
I'm out of tears. My heart's got no room left inside.

haven't done a selfie in ages so it was fun today.
a year and a half ago, i didn't even know what an SLR was, didn't know photoshop or anything to do with photography. i could just about take a decent shot on auto with my compact. i think a year and a half has seen me progress and develop quite a bit as a photographer. i think it helps that it has become a bit of an obsession.

I wonder how we can survive
This romance
But in the end if I'm with you
I'll take the chance
Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' crazy
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
My wife treated me this concert today. I hope you recognize them. Rick Springfield is on the left while Richard Marx is on the right. They sang some good songs from the 80s. I just could believe Rick Springfield is almost 75 years old and still posseses an amazing voice. I didn't care too much about them during the 70s and 80s. I was into British classic rock and classical music most of the time. Felt like not too long ago. And now, little did I know I started to listening to Chapell Roan and Laufey.
Tried to be what you wanted. I gave you all I had. You left me with nothin'
Nothin' but a photograph. Now All I have are the memories, tumbling inside.

Well, it was a no brainer for me, it had to be a Richard Marx song.
i've been a fan of his, ever since he released his first single in the early 80's. hardly anyone in the uk had heard of him but he was huge in the U.S.
He broke through over here with 'right here waiting' which hit number one, for quite a few weeks as i reacall and to this day, everyone still wonders who killed mary, the video for hazard being such an evocotive one.
until last year, he hadn't toured the uk in 18 years. i had tickets, but couldn't go, family reasons. i was a bit heartbroken, as his music had seen me through a lot of tough times and i admired both his music and his ethics. he has strong family values and had been married with kids for a long time now to cynthia rhodes of the movie dirty dancing.
turns out he's coming back to the uk... at the end of this month!!!
i have tickets... and i think someones gonna have to be hospitalised for me to miss this one... richard, this is my attempt at a thankyou for all the joy your music has given me over the years... now i'm off to download 'when you loved me' off of itunes!!!

song lyrics-ODC2
I've been trying to open the door
To the secret of my destiny
And every new road I think is the one
Seems to lead right back to me
I've looked for a way to be wiser
A way to be strong
Now I see the answer was hiding
In me all along
Restless, hopeless, and misunderstood
Like so many others I know
So busy tryin' to keep holdin' on
When I should've been letting go
I was given the gift to find it
The spirit inside me
But I never really imagined
All I could be
And I'm ready to fly
Over the sun
Like a rocket to heaven
And I'm ready to soar
Right through the sky
Never dreamed I'd find something to lift me so high
I've always had wings
But I wasn't ready to fly

This perhaps is one of my finest works, or at least I'd like to think of it that way. What do you think?
It was taken on an altitude of 40,000 feet, which means we were higher than the clouds and the sun could be seen clearly on the endless horizon; almost dancing as it sets into infinity. Right below us were a few thunder clouds where we could actually see the thunder up close inside the clouds. It was a view unlike anything else.

Thank you my dear friends!
My favorite time of year rests under our tree,
when most people have undecorated and heaped their evergreens onto compost piles
or at the local landfill.
I love the light which glistens upon favorite ornaments, tins and gift boxes too pretty to discard.
To keep spirits alive on this dreary day, I played with lenses while being treated to precious thank you calls and e-mails from friends throughout the world. What a glorious day it was. I feel blessed.
I'm also praying for a young man who had a critical car accident just before dawn, only yards from our driveway. Life is precious and much too fleeting.
“Words today are like the shells and rope of seaweed which a child brings home
glistening from the beach and which in an hour have lost their luster.”

The highlight of my week was sitting in front of the radio on a Sunday morning, listening to Shadoe Stevens and Casey Kasem's Top 40 Countdowns, ensuring that I recorded every single song played over the course of their show.
I'd consequently spend days writing down the singles, as above, and typing/printing out full charts on a dot matrix printer. I had books of these stupid things at home, adorned with the little lick-and-stick album covers from the Columbia House Record Club, beside my own little write-ups of each album... all for myself. I clearly had nothing better to do as a 13-year-old. DIY at its finest, my friends.
By the way, I have a secret spot in my heart for every single one of these songs. Come on, admit you loved 1989, too.

I went snorkeling for a change early in the Maui morning and synchronisticly came upon my old friend; Pro Photog Richard Marx. He was guiding a wedding couple for an early morning shoot. I was all set to snorkel, and at the waters edge when I thought, hmmm, this would make a great travel series of images and especially good for writing an article on "How to be a Great Maui Wedding Photographer (which Richard is)" and I am writing.
I WAS NOT expecting to catch him quite-in-the-act pictured here! I was using my iPhone 5 and the Camera Plus App; set to capture a burst of three images. This is the third and last unexpected stunner! Richard had been facing and working with the couple when I triggered the shutter. The app was set to count down three seconds before the burst and in that time, Richard turned to take his soaked, dragging long pants off ** and noticed me. Hey Richard, that's why you're a pro, whatever it takes to relax the Wedding Couple! LOL
**He was slowed down by the wet pants. My camera was already in the flow when he turned, noticed me and continued to take off his long pants...to have more freedom of movement in capturing the now NOT ONLY RELAXED, BUT LAUGHING Wedding Couple!!!
Way to Go Richard! ;-)

this is lucas marx, richard marx's son.
he was such a lovely bloke, and was kind enough to have a chat and a pic with me.
he's following in both his mom (cynthia rhodes ala dirty dancing) and dad's footsteps and getting into both music and acting.
you can see some of his music here
and some of his acting here
in fact all three of richards boys are musically gifted and if they're all as nice as lucas, then his parents have a hell of a lot to be proud of.
Note the ones I successfully crossed off the "want" side of the list. Man, my collection was to die for!

i've been a fan of richard marx for nearly 25 years, ever since he released his first ever single.
he hadn't visited the uk for nearly 20 years, and then did so last year. i got tickets but couldn't go in the end... i was gutted. then, a month or so later, i found out that he was coming back to the uk.
i got the best tickets i could (12 rows back... sweet!) and i went!
BEST NIGHT EVER! what an awsome concert and what a brilliant bloke! he was funny, friendly and you could just see that he was enjoying the concert as much as his fans were!
it was at the royal albert hall, the place was packed and i was so chuffed that i knew all the words to all his new stuff, which is wicked by the way.
everything about that night was perfect and best of all, my OH took me to the back stage door where, after a fair bit of waiting, i got to meet the man himself. he signed my ticket and even posed for a shot with me.
this is not my best angle, but i don't care!!! my OH is def not a photog, and was so worried about messing it up but he did a wicked job and i love him lots!
Richard Marx, you still rock! please make more albums like emotional remains, awsome!
you can see a bit of the concert here
Fan rant over ;-)
