Good things come in small packages. For such a tiny toad, it had attitude and personality. Got to be fast to escape predators like that yellowbelly racer.

This Frog let me position the iPhone several inches from his nose without even flinching. One of the things I love about the iPhone is having the ability and flexibility to get very close to objects, even at ground level, without being too cumbersome or obvious.

Sitting atop a spool of thread, this 11 foot tall bullfrog is one of four placed at each corner of the bridge known as Thread City Crossing in Willimantic, Connecticut. In the Spring of 1754 , there was a bad drought in the region, while at the same time, most of the able men from the town were off fighting in what was known as the French and Indian War. One steamy night in June, the town-folk were startled to hear "shrieking, clattering, and thunderous roars" , unlike anything they had ever heard. Young men and old men ran from their houses and began firing their guns aimlessly into the woods, while women and children hid under their beds. At daybreak the folks scoured the area and came upon a nearly dried up pond, surrounded by hundreds of dead bullfrogs, that had apparently fought to the death over the little bit of water left in the pond. Now to be fair, these were very religious, god-fearing people and didn't know if they were being attacked due to the war, or if the devil was lurking in the woods, or if it was Judgment Day !!! It didn't take long before they became the laughing stock of New England. Eventually, the event faded into history, but when it came time to build a new bridge over the Willimantic River, the local people decided that the "Frog Fight" should be commemorated with four giant frogs on the bridge. Since the town was the center of the American thread industry for nearly two centuries, they thought it would be perfect to have the bullfrogs on top of four of the 8 spools of thread on the bridge. The bronze frogs were created by sculptor Leo Jensen.

This little guy was hopping around the playground at Kent Park. I think he had an interesting 30 minutes or so playing with all the kids.

Because I don't want to fall into doing the same pictures over and over. I want to challenge myself.

If anybody wants to do an idea exchange (for 365s or whatever), I'm up for it. I need ideas, and I have ideas for a lot of your styles that I'd like to see you do.

And I'd also like to say that when I add a person as a contact, it means I'm going to take the time to look at their stream and comment on their pictures, because adding them means I'm interested in their work. If you add me, I assume you're doing it for the same reason, and if you add me without commenting or favoriting my stuff, I'm probably not going to add you back, because I'm going to assume that you don't have any desire to interact with me and are simply bookmarking my page.

ODC and 52 Weeks of Pix 2012 - SOMETHING FUNNY's hiding in the WATER. This isn't as easy a theme as I'd imagined. I've seen so many funny moments (or ones that have tickled me) over the last few months, but for the last few days they've eluded me and now I'm stuck at home with a poorly child. Liberation looms large, I hope, but I may not manage to get any suitable pictures later in the week so I decided to post my two offerings. This one just set itself up when I was over-seeing my daughter's bath, but the next one kind of says it all :-)

52 Weeks of Pix 2012 - Something Funny

ODC - Water

was sitting out by my empty pond the other day, wishing that whatever intruder took my fish would give them all back. guess that's not happening. ha

anyway was bummed and this guy swam out from the bottom of the pond and popped his head up right were i was sitting :)

i put my hand in and scooped him up, snapped this pic and put him back.

he's the biggest one in the pond right now. there are lots of smaller ones too. frogs are the only inhabitants these days since the snakes rolled into town :(

....and the frogs need to watch their backs too.

*) Aw crap, perhaps not my best day!

**) Note to self: from now on be nice to ladies in pointy hats!
