The place were Rhone river takes its roots.
Artificial ice cave. It's covered with fabric in attempt to slowing melting ice. In one or two years it will fully disappears.
This is precisely where the Rhone rises, which then flows through the Swiss Valais region, through the whole of France and finally into the Mediterranean.

El dominio esquiable es de unos 200 km repartidos entre 106 pistas, principalmente azules y rojas. El 11% del dominio está cubierto artificialmente. Está compuesto por dos vertientes: por un lado Arc 1600 y Arc 1800 y por otro Arc 1950 y Arc 2000.
Los dominios de Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry y La Plagne están unidos por el teleférico Vanoise Express, y forman el dominio Paradiski, con 425 km de pistas.
Su punto culminante es el pico Aiguille Rouge, de 3.226 msnm, situado sobre el dominio Arc 2000 y accesible por teleférico.

Four years ago today Shirl and I took a drive to to see the Rhone Glacier. From the earlier photos we had seen the glaciers retreat was alarming. Quite what difference the last four years will have made I don't know. The extra observant may notice that in this view the white section mid right are tarpaulins (not snow and ice) that have been draped over the near edge in the hope of reducing a degree of melt.
The authorities every year dig a fresh tunnel into the glacier where the public can access. It really was quite the experience and one that I will remember for some time. "Global Warming" all of a sudden became a subject that I could no longer dismiss.
