The table and chairs were already there, I did not move them.

Rethymno ist die drittgrößte Stadt auf der griechischen Insel Kreta. Der venezianische Hafen mit dem ägyptischen Leuchtturm, ist eine der malerischsten Gegenden der Altstadt.

Memories of beautiful Crete.

The lighthouse of the Venetian harbor of Rethymno is the second largest remaining Egyptian lighthouse in Crete, after the lighthouse of Chania harbor. It is built on the edge of the old harbour of Rethymnon.

The lighthouse we see today was built during the Egyptian Occupation of Crete (in dutch Kreta ) in the decade of 1830, when the Turks handed Crete to the Egyptians. Possibly there was an older Venetian lighthouse at the site, just like Chania harbor.

In 1864, the lighthouse came under the supervision of the French Lighthouse Company and today it’s not operating. The overall height of the lighthouse tower is 9 meters.

Rethymno (Greek: Ρέθυμνο, [ˈreθimno], also Rethimno, Rethymnon, Réthymnon, and Rhíthymnos) is a city of approximately 40,000 people in Greece, the capital of Rethymno regional unit on the island of Crete. It was originally built during the Minoan civilization (ancient Rhithymna and Arsinoe), but was never a competitive Minoan centre. It was, however, strong enough to mint its own coins and maintain urban growth. One of these coins is today depicted as the crest of the town: two dolphins in a circle.

Nad kvalitou snímku netřeba bádat. Děs. V r. 2008 nebyl v běžných DSLR bracketing a nebyl dostupný SW, který by zpracoval RAW do 8 min. odezvy. Proto jsme fotili do JPEG s 10 MPX. Na tu dobu krásné. Dnes nepoužitelné. Pro mě dostupný objektiv byl za 15 000, děcka na střední a vysoké. Přesto říkám: Nikon D60 byl ve své době naprosto špičkový a spolehlivý foťák.

Long exposure taken a couple of evenings ago in Rethymno. The original was a much wider pic, but all of the blurry boats bobbing around in the harbour distracted from the lighthouse and the great reflection in the water. Hope you like it!

We were happy to have a little moment with this framing, it is, ofcourse, a very famous photo subject, and every tourist wants this framing.

There are so many joyful things to see and do for a tourist in Rethymno. Shopping, visit one of the taverna's and eat delicious food. Enjoying the beautiful culture and history of that wonderful island of Crete. It is all so different then our boring grey buildings in western Europe.

In the old town there are the most shops and interesting things to see. So when visiting Crete, ((in dutch Kreta ) don't forget Rethymno.
