I noticed this scene a few weeks ago as I drove past the store after the sun had set. What captured my attention was the contrast between the bold, artificial glow of the yellow disk in the store's sign and the gentle and serene natural sunset colours in the sky behind. It almost feels like the already-set sun is replaced by the yellow disk.

Roshni's Indian Restaurant avoids obvious clichés but delicately balances traditional cultural references with simple functional interior design.

The aesthetic is palatial but restrained, with floor materials being a combination of highly polished Rojo marble and travertine tiles. All joinery is Indian teak veneered and for the final opulence, two illuminated water features backed by iridescent glass tiles dominate the dining spaces.

Located on Vienna's Kärntner Straße, one of the most famous and historic pedestrian arteries linking Stephansplatz to the State Opera, is the Swarovski store. The façade, which combines classic Viennese architecture with a contemporary glass design, reflects the fusion of heritage and modernity. Inside, an installation of translucent vertical elements evokes the brand's specialization in crystals. Founded in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski in Wattens, Swarovski has become synonymous with high-precision crystals, jewelry and decorative items. The Viennese store, spread over three floors, exemplifies the brand's ambition to unite commerce and art, attracting both customers and tourists in a street where luxury brands and architecturally important buildings are concentrated, in a busy tourist and shopping area.

A nighttime shot of a Baťa store, illuminated by the iconic red neon sign. The warm glow contrasts with the cool ambient lighting, creating a cozy yet modern urban atmosphere. The storefront showcases stylish footwear and accessories, with eye-catching advertisements in the window. The cobblestone street in the foreground adds a timeless European charm to the scene.

A futuristic corridor installation by Biogena, captured in striking symmetry and light. The tunnel-like architecture, illuminated glass floor, and rounded walls create a surreal sense of depth — as if stepping into a spacecraft or a digital dimension.

Above the entrance, the message “WELCOME TO YOURSELF” hints at a reflective or transformative experience, blending the aesthetics of wellness, science fiction, and modern retail design.

The image invites the viewer to walk forward — not just physically, but metaphorically — into self-discovery and inner awareness.

A marvellous surving shop facade in Delft in a stunning, mottled faience that is reminiscent of Doulton's works in England, and here in a very Dutch architectural style that feels almost 'arts and crafts' and yet starts to show hints of a more 'deco' feel.

Tim, below, has added some interesting context to this picture and

"From 1928 to 1961, T.P. Wilschut, as the successor to W.G. Welsing, the house architect of De Gruyter. As head of the Construction Department of De Gruyter, Wilschut was responsible for the construction and renovation of around 300 stores throughout the Netherlands."

The chain collapsed in the 1970s failing to anticipate the move to supermarket formats.

One of the case studies in "House Style", the themed issue of the CoID's magazine Design in November 1956 looks at the corporate identity and style of Mac Fisheries. The company's stores, then part of the Unilever empire having been set up by Lord Leverhulme in 1919 and acquired by Lever Brothers in 1922, were a common sight on British High Streets and sold fish, poultry and similar groceries.

Mac Fisheries had long had a 'style' dating back to the chain's formation in 1919 when Kruger Gray had designed their house mark, blue had been adopted as a house colour and shop fascias used a Roman lettering style. The publicity and advertising also had a 'common theme' throughout, some by the Doriam Studio. In 1952 the company employed Hans Schleger to refresh the image as seen here. The work, commissioned by S. Sutherland Smith, the retail development manager, involved all aspects of visual material from shops, transport, signs and packaging.

From a very lavish production, printed of course by the CWS's own Printing Works at Reddish, is a description of the new Coventry central premises of the city's Co-operative Society. Constructed to replace war-damaged property as well as being part of the wholly replanned and reconstructed city centre this certianly looks the part. The exterior elevation is very post-war "Festival of Britain" style and the interior would have been considered very under-stated and stylish in the day. The 'handsome' grocery supermarket would likely have been an eye opener for many members shopping there used to old fashioned counter style grocers.

As the book describes the many new shops, stores, factories and offices for the CWS and the various Societies were designed by the CWS's own Architects Department in the day when the Society basically made and did everything its members could need.

This is the interior conceptual design for the Rio Market, by I-5 Design and Manufacture. One of the key features in this 3d design is the multi-faceted suspended metal chain curtain, which creates a barrier from the two sections of the market eating area. The color scheme that I-5 chose for the market was one of bright green and yellow hues to give the space color and excitement as well as remain upscale and classy. A beautiful library in Oxford or a church in Rome? No, it’s the glorious interior of Clydebank Co-op, Chalmers Street, Clydebank. I posted a view a few months back and got a chance today to take this from the first floor, ‘B’ listed, designed by Stewart and Paterson and opened on 31st March 1917 as the Central Drapery and Furnishings Warehouse. The four storey red sandstone building was 256 feet long and was the biggest building in Clydebank.
