Rest Stop a small flock of crows came over and this one decided to stop and rest for a few minutes, shot in North Carolina.
Seems like a good place to hang out but in Newfoundland wind it didn't stay here long and I ended up chasing that red leaf until I lost it.
after sunset we found 3 lionesses that had been feasting on a blue wildebeest they had killed earlier that day .
They were resting near a waterhole and this large lioness was lying down on a mound

One from this day last year. I have only seen two this season and both of those were flying past very quickly
This species tends to be the favored bird to be used in advertisements geared toward conserving wetlands and promoting wildlife.
They nest in tree cavities where they are physically adept to perch in trees given the sharp claws they have on their feet. Man-made nesting boxes are readily accepted by these birds as well. This is the only species of duck that raises two broods in one breeding season.
Most often we find this member of the "Dabbling Duck" family feeding on the surface of the water gleaning seeds or tipping up to feed on aquatic plants.
This male is quietly enjoying a short rest between feeding times and has a female nearby.

A male monarch butterfly resting on a thick-spike gayfeather flower. I was happy to capture the rolled up proboscis. I've seen monarchs occasionally since the spring, typically one at a time, but few of them have been willing to pose like this. It will be interesting to see what the fall migration brings.
As we see the sun first peeking over the mountains in the background, these cows were waking after a restful night.
I was walking one of the trails in Anchorage when I came upon this young bull moose who was laying down in the snow and chewing his cud while a light snow fell. You can see the antlers beginning to bud out above the eye. When around a moose you watch the ears for signs of stress. If they fold the ears back it means they are stressed and could then charge you. Most animal attacks in Alaska are caused by moose, so you have to be wary.
