Roshni's Indian Restaurant avoids obvious clichés but delicately balances traditional cultural references with simple functional interior design.
The aesthetic is palatial but restrained, with floor materials being a combination of highly polished Rojo marble and travertine tiles. All joinery is Indian teak veneered and for the final opulence, two illuminated water features backed by iridescent glass tiles dominate the dining spaces.
This is the entry to the ‘House of Howonquet’ restaurant in the Lucky Seven Casino which was designed by I-5 Design and Manufacture. I-5 designed décor elements that included styles from the surrounding nature, such as the wood waved structure suspended from the ceiling, a rock wall behind the entry counter, custom redwood forest wall murals and more. A closer look upward in this Portuguese restaurant reveals not a simple ceiling, but a masterpiece of architectural texture—a marriage of craftsmanship and time. Here, stone and plaster tell a quiet story of human touch: every groove, every line, every chiselled surface shaped by centuries of local building tradition. The tactile rhythm of the pattern evokes both the discipline of masonry and the poetry of design, as if the structure itself were breathing the memory of its builders.
In Portugal, architecture has long celebrated surfaces as storytelling tools. The interplay between rough and smooth, matte and sheen, is as deliberate as any tilework in Lisbon or fresco in Sintra. This ceiling detail exemplifies heritage architecture at its most intimate scale—where beauty is not found in ornament but in texture, proportion, and the dance of light across uneven stone. Morning sunlight brushes gently across the ridged plaster, emphasizing the geometric hatching and concentric curves that might once have echoed the rhythms of the vaulted ceilings above.
The warm palette of ochres and creams reflects the earthy tones of Portuguese clay and limestone—materials abundant across the Iberian Peninsula and beloved for their durability and honesty. These surfaces are not perfect; they are preserved, proudly bearing the patina of time. Photographically, the appeal lies in the structure’s architectural symmetry and its tactile rhythm. The precision of the composition—half smooth limestone, half patterned brick—draws the viewer into a dialogue between permanence and imperfection. A striking Victorian-era corner building clad in rich red brick stands tall over a busy intersection in Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle neighborhood. Topped by a dramatic slate mansard roof and ornate dormer windows, the building exhibits the defining characteristics of Second Empire architecture—a style that gained popularity in the late 19th century for its grandeur and Parisian flair.
Architectural drama abounds in this imposing structure: elaborate corbels, cast-iron cresting, paired chimneys, and tall sash windows arranged symmetrically across the façade. The sharply defined verticality of the building is further emphasized by projecting bays, turret-like roof features, and recessed brickwork patterns. This is a showpiece of urban Victorian design, built to impress and built to last.
At street level, the past meets the present. A contemporary Le Pain Quotidien café has seamlessly integrated into the historic ground floor, creating a bustling corner spot that invites locals and visitors alike. With outdoor seating, a warm glow through its windows, and signage that is tasteful and subdued, the café enhances rather than disrupts the historic fabric of the building. This fusion of preservation and commerce is a hallmark of Dupont Circle’s success as a dynamic, livable neighborhood.
Modern life bustles in the foreground: a cyclist zips through the crosswalk, a red and white taxi catches motion blur at the intersection, and pedestrians stroll past on their way to meetings or brunch. The juxtaposition between the ornate Victorian architecture and the clean lines of the neighboring mid-century and contemporary buildings illustrates D.C.’s evolving skyline—an architectural dialogue between old and new.
The photo, taken during a calm, overcast day, softens the textures and balances the exposure, allowing the fine details of the brickwork, cornices, and slate to emerge clearly. The overall mood is one of timeless charm in an ever-moving city.

Converted from a shopping container, this lifestyle store and cafe is amongst the boutique shops Taipei's trendy Zhongshan District is well known for.
Kansas City-based Glace (say it this way, “Gla-say”) Artisan Ice Cream is a more grown-up sweet treat expression, rich in texture and inventive flavors like Venezuelan dark chocolate, fleur de sel caramel and pineapple-cilantro sorbet. The corresponding brand expression is clean, sophisticated and a nod to the owner’s love of modern minimalism. At the same time, copy and color palette make it feel fun and approachable. The logo also incorporates a sly tie to ice cream with circles that look like melting “drips” hitting the floor, while tailored graphic elements make the identity feel fashionable and unexpected in the category.

This is the interior of the Thunder Road Steakhouse & Cantina, where I-5 Design & Manufacture created an interior design that built on the route 66 roadside theme, the Hispanic roots of Mew Mexico and an old film from the 50’s titled ‘Thunder Road’. Rustic wood beam elements and custom mica chandeliers were suspended from the ceiling to add interest, and draw the eye downward to the seating area below. Wall murals and décor elements, such as the vintage car protruding through the wall speak of the legend of ‘Thunder Road’ in a timeless way as never before.
