It's called calm and it cost me many storms.

Calm is called and when it disappears…. I go out again to search for him.

It's called calm and it teaches me to breathe, to think, and to rethink.

It is called calm and when madness tempts it, wild winds are unleashed that are difficult to control.

It is called calm and it comes with the years when the ambition of youth, the loose tongue and the cold belly give way to more silences and more wisdom.

It is called calm when you learn to love well, when selfishness gives way to giving and nonconformity fades to open your heart and soul, giving yourself whole to whoever wants to receive and give.

Calm is called when the friendship is so sincere that all the masks fall and everything can be counted.

It's called calm and the world evades it, ignores it, inventing wars that no one will ever win.

Calm is called when silence is enjoyed, when the noises are not just music and madness but the wind, birds, good company or the noise of the sea.

It is called calm and with nothing you pay, there is no coin of any color that can cover its value when it comes true.

It is called calm and it cost me many storms and I would go through them a thousand times more until I found it again.

It's called calm, I enjoy it, I respect it and I don't want to let go ...

This one's for Russ Barnes (www.russbarnes.co.uk)

I was lucky enough to be shooting with him a couple of weekends ago (on an excellent Greg Whitton workshop). We were climbing Moelwyn Mawr in Snowdonia, Wales, watching some incredible weather moving across the landscape. I'd started packing up my gear up at this point, eager to climb further but Russ (the wily fox) had seen this cloud developing and waited... and waited.. and waited just a bit more, until we got this shot. Respect, Russ - great lesson!

Y Garn is the hill in the middle distance, with the long ridge of Cadair Idris behind (about 20 miles away).

This wiry fence is doing its best to keep people from falling off the cliff overlooking a local waterfall. You can just make out the top of the falls in the background. However, the fence itself is not one I would trust to hold me if I lean on it. It is definitely up to people to respect the boundaries and take caution. We love all the snowshoeing we have been doing this month as we continue to get fresh snowfalls everyday. On this day, the snow was so wet, it was a challenge to keep our gear dry. Happy Fence Friday!

It was to good to be true, but right after sunset a secondary small non severe thunderstorm started to brew just to the southwest of Kearney.

Even though I just had a spectacular afternoon of some incredible stormscapes, I was in for a treat this night. An electrified thriller, one storm that I wont soon forget.

Nature knows no fence.

The Saffron-crowned Tanager (Tangara xanthocephala) is a breathtaking subject, and capturing it at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, was a rewarding challenge. This Andean gem, perched elegantly on a mossy branch, stands out with its vivid saffron-yellow crown and iridescent turquoise plumage. The soft, diffused light filtering through the cloud forest canopy provided an ideal setting to highlight the bird’s intricate feather details and the rich textures of its surroundings. This image represents the delicate balance of nature and the beauty of photographing wildlife in its natural habitat.

For this shot, I used the Canon RF 100-500mm lens at its maximum focal length of 500mm, allowing me to capture the tanager from a respectful distance without disturbing its behavior. A shutter speed of 1/500 sec froze the subtle movements of the bird, while an aperture of f/6.7 ensured a creamy background that isolates the subject beautifully. ISO 800 balanced the low light conditions, retaining vibrant colors and sharp details. These technical choices reflect my approach to bird photography—blending precision and respect for the natural world to create images that tell a story.

Ever since our trip west a couple of years ago, I'm fascinated by the history of the prairies and the once endless herds of Buffalo that shaped the area and it's early people. These two are part of a small herd on a local farm. They are considered wild and are such hardy animals that they have no problem in the winter cold. Their coats are heavy enough that body heat will not melt the snow on their backs. Their skin thickens and a layer of fat further insulates against the cold. Even their metabolism slows so they don't have to eat as much and what they do consume stays in the gut longer to extract more nutrients. Those massive heads and shoulders can plow through four feet of snow to get at the grass and energy is conserved by slowing movements or resting more often. They deserve respect!

So this was interesting, when anthony stepped on the capri sun the first time it shot directly all over my camera, we then tried this photo again and got a keeper. I then ran home and cleaned my camera off

Although it looks like the woods in my back yard are blazing with fire in reality it is an incredible sunrise. Not so much for Australia. We must rise above forest fires and be totally ingenuous to the mass destruction they incur and the lives, both animals and humans, that are lost to carelessness and arson.

Massive, swirling storm clouds dominate the sky over a rural landscape, with a road and power lines leading into the distance. Fields of green and yellow frame the scene, adding contrast to the dark, ominous clouds overhead.

I was simply amazed by what caught my eyes….the beautiful wooden columns and flooring, the space and craftsmanship, the silhouette and reflections, and a touch of Autumn colors in the background to brighten it all up….oh yes and its profound silence
