Depeche Mode - „Get the balance right“

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfiISFiozg8

There′s more besides

Joyrides

The little house in the countryside

Understand

Learn to demand

Compromise

And sometimes lie

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Be responsible

Respectable

Stable but gullible

Concerned and caring

Help the helpless

But always remain

Ultimately selfish

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

When you think you've got a hold of it all

You haven′t got a hold at all

When you reach the top

Get ready to drop

Prepare yourself for the fall

You're gonna fall

It's almost predictable

Almost

Don′t turn this way

Don′t turn that way

Straight down the middle until next Thursday

First to the left

Then back to the right

Twist and turn 'til you′ve got it right

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Get the balance right

Almost

I must say I have been caught up in the buzz created by the Buckingham Branch RR's leasing of Precision Locomotive's Western Maryland painted SD40-3. It has been nice to have something "new" to photograph in the Valley. The 7471 has been used exclusively on the Mountain Local which runs on the more scenic western portion of the BB operated former C&O line between Richmond and Clifton Forge. Here the crew is on their way to Clifton Forge with a respectable 40-car train to deliver to the CSX. They are passing through the curved 290-foot Lick Run tunnel. The two-degree superelevated curve throughout is plainly seen in this view.

done and done. finally. FINALLY.

Shop of the merchant woman M. A. Shanina. Built in 1900. One of the most magnificent buildings in the Omsk city, it is located at the very beginning of Lyubinsky Avenue.

Maria Aleksandrovna Shanina, an honorary citizen of Omsk, like all businesswomen, had flair and foresight. For the construction of the store and her living quarters, she invited a promising architect - Iliodor Gennadyevich Khvorinov.

According to Maria Shanina's request, the store building had to differ in two features - to be respectable and major (conviviality), to attract the attention of passers-by and visitors. Khvorinov is called an Eclectic architect (combining different styles in his creations). In this creation of his there are classical elements - columns of the Ionic order and an abundance of details of the Baroque style - various stucco figures. Classical elements give the building respectability, and the elements of Baroque majorness.

The architect built the shop of the merchant Shanina on a multi-level terrain. Khvorinov first built the second floor, and then erected the first.

Магазин купчихи М. А.

Gōtokuji Temple, located in the Setagaya ward of Tokyo, is a Buddhist temple that is said to be the birthplace of the maneki-neko, or “luck-inviting cat figurine.”

These small statues, which portray a cat sitting up and beckoning with its front paw, have become quite popular all over the world with cat-lovers.

Although there are many different kinds of maneki-neko raising either their right or left paws, Gotokuji Temple specializes in the right-pawed version of this good-luck symbol.

Temple legend states that during the early 17th century, Ii Naotaka (then the second lord of the Omi-Hikone Domain) escaped from being caught in a sudden thunderstorm after being invited inside the temple by a cat that lived there.

To show his gratitude to the cat, Naotaka decided to dedicate the temple to the Ii clan. After Naotaka passed away, the temple was renamed to Gotokuji, from his posthumous Buddhist name “Kyushoin-den Gotokuten ei-daikoji.”

The cat that created that opportunity for the temple to grow into a respectable and important place was deified as “Fortune-Inviting Kannon.”

The cat was later said to bring good fortune, being called “shou-fuku byou-ji” or “maneki-neko.” Gotokuji Temple has been filled with lucky cat figurines donated by worshippers ever since.

I was on my way north from Walkerton to LaPorte, lamenting that the South Shore's line to Stillwell still needed some snow removal, and it being a Thursday may be a good bet they'd show. Looking up the tracks as I crossed the line at the Indiana Route 4, low and behold, his headlight peered at me in the distance. With barely a few moments to set up (they move along quite respectably here, actually), 2 geeps and 3 coil cars push their way through fresh lake effect powder on their way south. And this was cool!

This guy/gal popped up while were breaking for lunch which caused us to pack up and follow , at a safe respectable distance at all time. Here I was on my stomach on a cliff over looking the channel

Mason City to Spencer turn job K40 is heading back home for a 12-hour tie up after serving customers along former Milwaukee Road track. They also connect with another job at Spencer that makes a turn to the end of the line at Sheldon. They had a respectable 82-car inbound train on this frosty morning.

No great back story to this guy, but here’s what I got:

Sewage worker of 2275 turned to his true calling, as a drone operator. His new profession has him working on the dark city streets of Mirai No Toshi, as a Skill For Hire (a more respectable way of saying mercenary). Frequently shipping out as surveillance for inner-city contraband trafficking, Don has a growing library of skills and efficiencies.

His moral compass is solid, as far as SFHs go, and he refuses to have anything to do with human trafficking. When he can, he’ll sabotage missions of the sort due to his distaste for the business.

Harboring dozens of drones, he can hold his own if necessary, though he prefers not to over exert his use of his resources unless it is absolutely required.

AS OF 2/23/19 I intend to start posting more. I just finished up my finals for this last trimester, and I’m currently transitioning between rooms in my house. I’ll probably post a picture of my new set up (nothing impressive) and hopefully I’ll start posting weekly if not twice a week. The main reason for not posting often is a combination of being really tired once I get all my homework out of the way, and also just being too damn lazy. It’s not even that I don’t get to do things with LEGOs, because I do almost every day, it’s just I don’t have a new photo set up or even anything worth posting. Hopefully that will change.

More posts coming soon! Keep it chill, dudes!

1st day of Lockdown 5.0.

5 days to go...

We were so very fortunate to see this Western Kingbird nest recently. She was sitting on the nest when we first saw it. When we returned a couple weeks later, the babies were hiding under her. They appeared to be close to fledging so we looked in on them a few days later to find them out of the nest.

It was such a treat to see them just briefly through the nesting process at a respectable distance. I waited to post until they were gone.

A small hike from the Bonneville Dam is Wachella Falls. Like so many other places in the Columbia River Gorge (a National Scenic Area) the trail to the Wachella Falls is inspiring. You cross a bridge that goes right over a respectable falls on the way to Wachella. I think that poor waterfall never gets any respect. I was sad for the poor fella. I think he may have been taller than Wachella but the scene was not quite what his big brother is, and it falls down rocks instead of off of rocks, so its just not as captivating. Sorry lesser falls. :( Once past that the canyon gets more and more impressive. The trees get bigger, the creek gets bigger and you start to climb in elevation, passing over bridge after bridge. Then the trail turns and heads back down in elevation and starts back down towards the river. Its like it was designed to take you up to see the tops of the trees and then drops you back down in just to intensify the experience. Over a few more bridges to make it even more fun, then you hear the falls, you can't see them yet, but you hear them. But nature is not done controlling your experience yet. With the sound of the falls beckoning yo, the trail goes into this cave-like depression in the rock face, with water falling down the inside of the cave and ferns growing form the ceiling of the cave. Forget about Wacella, you could turn back now and you would have had a great time. The over one last bridge and BAM! There's Wachella and a series of fantastic moss covered boulders. Like Spirit falls, no normal image would do here. Anything but a panorama would not do this area justice. I could almost hear the spirit of the falls saying, bit*h, you better not take a normal image of me. Ok, ok pushy spirit, no need to swear. Panorama it is. She smiled. She is rude, but she smiled. All were happy and a good time was had by all.

The cement factory of Turňa nad Bodvou is capable of producing 2700 tons of cement daily.

That is quite a respectable amount; imagine how many trucks you would need to even transport just a fraction of it.

Thankfully the factory has a railway connection which it utilises greatly: most of the servicing of the plant and the delivery of the end product to other cities, countries is handled by freight trains, like the one pictured here.

Last Friday, the Turňa nad Bodvou - Košice - Ercsi cement train was especially lengthy, consisting of 31 wagons (if I counted correctly), so the two Bardotkas were performing their concert on full volume, filling the neighbourhood with the unmistakable rattling sound.

John and I were eating dinner on the back deck when we spotted a gray fox outside the perimeter fence. It walked purposefully along the fence, through a gap in the gate and straight to the bird feeder where it began to scrounge for scraps. Prior to this encounter, we had noticed a worn down path through the grass which we had assumed to be a squirrel trail. Apparently, that path hosts more interesting wildlife than we’d dared to imagine. During our sighting I quietly ducked back inside to grab my camera and snapped a very quick image over the side of the deck. It was dark but I did manage this one fairly respectable shot. Since that evening we have heard red foxes barking in the empty lot behind the house. I’m not really sure what’s happening, but we are watching and listening to see if either species might be denning nearby. Wouldn’t that be a thrill!

Respectability is a thin veneer at the best of times. One cannot immediately become respectable by posing with a Tweed jacket, top hat, wooden walking stick and a pink rose, although one might try.

We're Here looks at Flowers today, even though this is a fake one, as we still have snow on the ground.

One of my favorite encounters in the Okavanga Delta was with this bull elephant. We first saw him emerging from thick vegetation on an island in the distance. We then followed along at a respectable distance as he walked to the water, stopped to snack several times, and then crossed over to another island. We spent perhaps 30-45 minutes watching and were grateful to have shared the time with him.

Thank you for your views and comments. They are all greatly appreciated.

Back in February of 2017, the CMQ ran a plow extra to clear out the Searsport Sub after a heavy storm. For the most part, there wasn't much plow action, but around the corner at Steamboat Wharf in Stockton Springs, they did encounter some heavier drifts. Seen here kicking up a respectable amount of snow, B23-7 2003 is shoving VB100, a wedge plow inherited from the Canadian Pacific, on the way south to Searsport.

Maybe Flickr isn't the right platform for posting a "true" instagram picture. But Lomanstraat in Amsterdam has this odd authentic and scenic atmosphere. Especially in autumn when the leaves of the Plane trees are colouring and falling.

And since a respectable photographer like Albert Dros shares his images of Lomanstraat and I'm even including a person in taking his instamoment with his cellphone in my picture, it gives me enough excuses to share this image with you. So...

Enjoy!

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common - this is my symphony. ----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

This European Oak, Quercus robur, the so-called 1000-year Oak, is said to be the oldest in The Netherlands. New research, though, places it at between 500 and 700 years old, also respectable.

The early Spring day was brilliant and to my delight I saw some Wood Violets in the grass by Tree's trunk.

In the background Doornenburg Castle. It dates from the fourteenth century and was restored between 1936-1941. In March 1945 it fell prey to British air attacks but it was rebuilt from its ruins between 1947 and 1968.

Picturesque. And it's been used as a film setting and of course for myriad private photos.

To Samad Vurgun

I finally made it to your city,

but I was late, Samad,

we couldn't get together:

I was late by the space of death.

I didn't want to hear your voice

on tape, Samad -

I can't look at pictures of the dead

without totally dying.

But the day will come

when I'll totally separate you from yourself, Samad.

You'll enter the world of respectable memories.

And I'll lay flowers on your grave

without tears in my eyes.

Then the day will come

when what happened to you

will happen to me, too, Samad.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Spent a long weekend at the beach on Sanibel Island. Not too much respectable photography, but I might have a shore bird or two to post after the waterfalls have dried up! Hope to get caught back up tonight.

In the gravelly parking areas of the Oregon State Fish and Wildlife Area at Summer Lake, Oregon there are often a hundred or more Killdeer standing together as though they were attending some kind of assembly. They are all separated by a respectable distance and are facing, more often than not, the same direction. If one gets too close, they will individually fly about in circles to land in another part of the parking area. This is in no way a flock as Killdeer seem highly individualistic. When it comes to water bug hunting along some muddy bank, they are quite solitary. This is in mark contrast to Long-billed Dowitchers and Western Sandpipers which tend to feed in flocks.

They are there, I believe, because of their attraction to all the bright colored and uniquely shaped pebbles to be found in this gravel. This is what they add to their nests almost obsessively as a kind of camouflage.

The canon 7D was a pretty capable camera but the original 100-400 zoom could be pretty disappointing at times. Together they did a respectable job on this shot taken at considerable distance and cropped big time in processing. When the image stabilizer on that original lens malfunctioned, I replaced it with the new version which is light years better.

Spotted in the same spot as the Sunny, must be an enthusiast of 80s Japanese stuff somewhere. This slightly rough example has covered a respectable 157k miles, that's around 100k more than most of these would've done before they met their fate.

Dearest Maman,

I am writing to you from my new home!

As you know, I had planned to stay in Countess Dysart’s commercial lodgings, but I discovered to my shock that the prices for a room were far beyond my meager budget.

Before meeting with my employer, Miss Perspicacity Frost, I left my luggage with the porter in the lovely “welcome center,” which I understand is serving as something of a town hall until the next round of colony funding. I confess I was a few minutes late, but when I explained why (no excuses, Maman! you raised your youngest better than that!), she took me firmly by the hand (Miss Frost is a noted equestrienne, and as a result has a grip more than suited to hauling wisps of girls around) and let me to a lovely little cottage. In no uncertain terms, she told me that it was mine, and that she would select appropriate furnishings, rather than leave me to the whims of the quartermaster.

Thus, here I am. I am across the street from a lovely little park, and just at the end of the Academy’s private plaza. It has rained all day, so I didn’t feel guilty at all about setting up house, then curling up with a nice pot of tea.

I have nearly two months until I start teaching, but Miss Frost has named me Head of Department for Fashion, though I protested that I’m far too junior for such an august role. Miss Frost told me that I was wrong, and she wanted to hear no more of it. Aside from having had some level of manners beaten into me, I am mildly terrified of the lady, and quickly acquiesced.

And so, I am designing a Major Course of Study for the young ladies. My charges will have a mastery of technique and terminology, color and cut, past and present. I confess, despite my continued trepidations, I am quite enjoying the challenge!

I

t's quiet in town: I am one of the first to arrive who is not one of the founder-investors. But, there is both a lovely café and a quite respectable tavern next to the Academy’s main building, so I am well fed, and looked after.

Please give Papa my love, and my deepest sympathies to my brothers-in-law.

But seriously, my best to all,

Your loving daughter,

Hannah

Siberian ibex

The Siberian ibex (Capra ibex siberica) is a resident of this mountainous landscape. This largest subspecies of ibex lives on bare, treeless rocks in the high mountains of Central Asia, at altitudes between 500 and 5,000 meters. The curved horns of the males reach a respectable length of 1 meter, while the females have only short, barely curved horns.

On April 13, 2024, a special train with the designation DZ 28084 ran from Cologne main station to Munich East. The Centralbahn was transporting football fans to an away match. The 110 278 was used as the locomotive. At Vierkirchen I was able to take a picture of the boxy class 110, which is in its 62nd year of operation. In Petershausen, the train was probably being overhauled and the locomotive took a while to accelerate its respectable 14-car train back up to travel speed.

This wasn't high on my list to post. Its a nice shot, meh light with good power and a neat elevator. Doing some reading though, I found some information that made it worth posting. As the dirt being kicked up shows, the Logan Local isn't moving slow as they rock through Willow Creek. The 5th Sub is a respectable 40 mph, certainly not something you'd consider slow. However, compared to the history in this spot, they might as well be standing still. From the Northern Pacific Diesel Era 1945-1970 book, consider the following excerpt, regarding the railroads testing of brand new EMD F3 diesels in 1946: "The trip from Saint Paul to Seattle was completed in 33 hours and 56 minutes, with the train reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour near Willow Creek, MT". Of all the wide open spaces on the Northern Pacific's route to the West Coast, the tiny town of Willow Creek was where the train rocketed through at nearly 100 mph!! Its hard to imagine those speeds on the branch these days, but one can only imagine the sight of brand new diesels invading a steam dominated world, passing by this 1912 built elevator as they brought the NP into a new era of motive power at nearly 100 mph almost 80 years ago. Truly mind boggling.

I followed this train back to Waitati, but in a reprise of the earlier one, somehow got clouded out at most spots - despite there being almost no clouds in the sky. So in summary, the day correlated closely with the predictions derived from Bond's Third Law of Trainspotting.

"DS 104 to KCS 4604"

Hearing this on the radio Wednesday afternoon, and knowing that there was another KCS unit parked next to the main in Topeka, I knew that I had to get this shot, regardless of the weather. As an added bonus, the platform did its job, and kept me respectably dry as I waited!

On the left, the KCS 4851 had come into town on the LRT coal train, while the 4604 is leading the Q-ROBCHI6 21A. The ROBCHI is an intermodal train from the KCS in Robstown, TX, which is a suburb of Corpus Christi. Along its way to Chicago, it also does work in Alliance, TX.

It's not every day that one gets to shoot side-by-side KCS units, especially off of the KCS main, so I was happy to wait this one out. #GTS

Well today was to be a trip to the Annapolis Valley and to Photograph Eagles. Who knew that I would be home in bed with a cold and not able to walk across the room without a heavy coughing spell. Oh well what are archives for if not to post from. This is a photo from a little over a month ago.

It has been a habit of mine to post action shots of conflict between one or more of these majestic birds. I thought I would try for something a bit different and post a Low Soaring Eagle. Zoom in. I think the detail is respectable.

A gaff-rigged schooner, 100 ft in length, classic oak-framed fishing boat, Soteria was originally designed and built in Denmark to harvest the rich waters of the Baltic Sea.

She retired from service in the 1970s and became a charter boat before being converted into this majestic schooner you see today.

She carries 7 sails and will lick along at a very respectable pace of 12 knots in a brisk wind, her 60 tonne frame and blunt features parting the swell with effortless strength and style.

The Scorpion is a lightning fast starfighter, with impressive agility, incredible speed, and respectable firepower, but it sacrifices in armor and range to gain those attributes
