El pino canario es capaz de resurgir de las cenizas al igual que un ave fénix. Antiguamente, debido a su valiosa madera de tea, el hombre explotó los pinares, pero hoy en día sirven principalmente para la recreación.

The name says it all, it's a round bee that builds its nest from resin. And it bites the bedpost to sleep. Pretty red neck if you ask me. :)

A different look at a Heriades sp. from our garden. Utilizing a macro lens has really allowed me to appreciate the compound eyes of bees and other insects. They can be truly stunning with rich colors and intricate patterns. Compound eyes allow bees to interpret their surroundings, detect objects, and sense depths. Bees and wasps also have three eye-like structures on the top of their heads known as ocelli which sense light and movement and are helpful for navigation during flight.

Instead of using leaves, resin bees use plant resin to partition their nest chambers. They have a long, slender look and their abdomens often appear to curl downwards. There are only a few species in the eastern U.S., however they are very difficult to separate. They are fairly common in our garden, and I've observed them on a variety of plant genera including Amorpha, Liatris, Rudbeckia, and Passiflora.

I got lucky and found a snoozing Resin Bee. This is a new solitary bee for me as I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've photographed one. They look very similar to European Wool Carder Bees but the face is white instead of yellow.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F14, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order. I held the grass stalk close to a wall to keep the background from being black.
