Sur la Place de la République à Strasbourg, s'élèvent des Gingko biloba, présents de l'empereur du Japon à Guillaume II. Ces arbres ont donc été plantés entre la fin du XIXe siècle et le début du XXe siècle.
Ses Gingko sont de beaux spécimens présentant des circonférences de tronc de plus de 470cm.
Caractéristiques de l’essence
L’Arbre aux quarante écus (ou aux mille écus) est la seule espèce actuelle de la famille des Ginkgophytes. Sept autres espèces fossiles sont connues. Cette espèce est la plus ancienne espèce d’arbre connue. Elle serait apparue il y a plus de 270 millions d’années, soit avant les dinosaures. L’arbre aux 40 écus a été découvert en 1690 au Japon par le botaniste allemand Engelberg Kaempfer. Cette essence est originaire du sud-est de la Chine.
Considéré comme protecteur pour conjurer le feu, il a été planté auprès des pagodes dans les jardins sacrés des temples. Il a été introduit en Europe au XVIIIème siècle, dans un premier temps aux Pays-Bas en 1727 puis en Angleterre. Un riche amateur de Montpellier a acquis un pied en 1788 pour la somme astronomique de 40 écus, d’où son nom. (Source: Strasbourg.eu)
On the Place de la République in Strasbourg, stand Gingko biloba trees, gifts from the Emperor of Japan to William II. These trees were therefore planted between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
His Gingko are beautiful specimens with trunk circumferences of over 470cm.
Species characteristics
The Maidenhair Tree is the only current species of the Ginkgophyta family. Seven other fossil species are known. This species is the oldest known tree species. It would have appeared more than 270 million years ago, before the dinosaurs. The maidenhair tree was discovered in 1690 in Japan by the German botanist Engelberg Kaempfer. This essence is native to southeastern China.
Considered as a protector to ward off fire, it was planted near pagodas in the sacred gardens of temples. It was introduced in Europe in the 18th century, first in the Netherlands in 1727 and then in England.

L'Aktè est célèbre pour les vingt monastères orthodoxes qui y sont établis depuis le Xe siècle. Ils forment une République monastique du Mont-Athos dont la montagne fait partie, et qui jouit d'un certain degré d'autonomie au sein de la République hellénique. Au sommet se dressent un crucifix en acier, une petite chapelle et un refuge.
Aktè is famous for the twenty Orthodox monasteries that have been established there since the 10th century. They form a monastic Republic of Mount Athos of which the mountain is part, and which enjoys a certain degree of autonomy within the Hellenic Republic. At the top stand a steel crucifix, a small chapel and a refuge.

At the foot of the Place de la République, a bakery well placed and very convenient for hurry and lunch on the run.
Breads, pastries such as rum baba, raspberry, lemon meringue tart, strawberry, Saint-Marc, flan, small and large birthday cakes, tea or coffee.
There is a small snack and tasting area inside, in a renovated old-style ceiling with an opening to the outside, in a busy neighborhood. 120

It is located in the upper reaches of the Dargle River, at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. It is the Ireland's highest waterfall at 121 metres. Powerscourt Estate, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland.

🇫🇷 La Corse possède actuellement 83 tours génoises. Les tours génoises sont des tours côtières disposées le long du littoral des anciens territoires de la République de Gênes. La construction de ces tours a débuté dans les années 1500 pour se protéger des pirates.
La Tour d'Erbalonga (en corse : Torra d'Erbalunga) est une tour génoise en ruines située dans la commune de Brando, dans le département français de la Haute-Corse.
Edifiées du 15° au 18° siècle, les tours du Cap Corse avaient pour rôle principal la surveillance de la mer et la défense des côtes des grandes razzias barbaresques.

🇬🇧 Corsica currently has 83 Genoese towers. Genoese towers are coastal towers along the coastline of the former territories of the Republic of Genoa. The construction of these towers began in the 1500s to protect against pirates.
The Erbalonga Tower (in Corsican: Torra d'Erbalunga) is a ruined Genoese tower located in the commune of Brando, in the French department of Haute-Corse.
Built from the 15th to the 18th century, the main role of the towers of Cap Corse was to watch over the sea and defend the coast from the great barbarian raids.

La costruzione di queste torri iniziò nel 1500 per proteggersi dai pirati. Edificate dal XV al XVIII secolo, le torri del Capo Corso avevano come ruolo principale la sorveglianza del mare e la difesa delle coste dalle grandi razzie barbaresche.

Der Turm von Erbalonga (korsisch Torra d'Erbalunga) ist ein in Ruinen gelegener genuesischer Turm in der Gemeinde Brando im französischen Departement Haute-Corse. Die vom 15° bis zum 18° Jahrhundert errichteten Türme des Cap Corse hatten die Überwachung des Meeres und die Verteidigung der Küsten der großen barbarischen Razzien zur Hauptaufgabe.

The Place de la Republique, one of the main squares in Arles, France with its obelisk (originally erected in the 4th century) and water fountain (added in the 19th century) in the center and surrounded by Town Hall and a couple of old churches: St Anne Chapel and The Cathedral of St. Trophime built in the 12th century. This is a great place to people watch, but surprisingly at this time and day the square was almost empty of people - one of the benefits of visiting this area in the "off-season".

The Curonian Spit is located in the Curonian Spit National Park of Lithuania and the Kurshskaya National Park of the Russian Federation. The status of these national parks guarantees the protection of the cultural landscape.
Human occupation of this narrow peninsula of sand dunes, 98 km long and 0.4 to 4 km wide, dates back to prehistoric times. Since that time it has been under threat from the natural forces of wind and waves. It owes its current preservation only to the incessant efforts of the inhabitants to combat the erosion of the isthmus, efforts remarkably illustrated by the continuous stabilization and reforestation projects.
In the Republic of Lithuania, any activity posing a threat to the outstanding universal value of the Curonian Spit is prohibited by the Law on Protected Areas. In the Russian Federation, the relevant laws are the Federal Law on Specially Protected Nature Territories of the Russian Federation.
L’Isthme de Courlande est situé dans le Parc national de l’Isthme de Courlande de Lituanie et dans le Parc national Kurshskaya de la Fédération de Russie. Le statut de ces parcs nationaux garantit la protection du paysage culturel.
L'occupation humaine de cette étroite péninsule de dunes de sable, longue de 98 km et large de 0,4 à 4 km, remonte aux temps préhistoriques. Depuis cette période, elle a été sous la menace des forces naturelles du vent et des vagues. Elle ne doit sa préservation actuelle qu'aux efforts incessants des habitants pour combattre l'érosion de l'isthme, efforts remarquablement illustrés par les projets continus de stabilisation et de reboisement.
Dans la République de Lituanie, toute activité représentant une menace sur la valeur universelle exceptionnelle de l’Isthme de Courlande est interdite par la Loi sur les zones protégées. Dans la Fédération de Russie, les lois pertinentes sont la Loi fédérale sur les territoires de la nature spécialement protégés de la Fédération de Russie.
