Handheld shot.

I had the privilege of spending a couple of hours at a local reptile shop in York (Leaping Lizards) on Tuesday afternoon. I was granted full access to this world of wonder by the owners who kindly allowed me to take photographs without the restriction of shooting through glass. I could have spent all day looking at their fabulous stock of reptiles through my macro lens and I even built up enough courage to photograph a Brazilian Giant Salmon Pink Tarantula (not for the feint hearted, pics to follow soon)! As soon as the glass doors were slid open the stigma of the various snakes, lizards etc was removed. I half expected them to start leaping at me but this was not the case and instead I was left to stare in awe at their beauty and enjoy my photography.

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did - more to follow!

Thanks in advance for any comments or favourites you wish to make.

Experimenting with new fabrics, and new shapes... maybe the shape of things to come. :)

Dasha is wearing a draped faux snake skin leather dress with crystalized V neck detailings.

Well known as ‘snake with a hood’. A venomous snake that, when excited, rears up and spreads the skin behind its head to form a hood.

Thank you for taking your time to view my photos.

Took this shot while leaning out of a boat in Costa Rica. At one point someone alerted me to another large croc which seemed to be sneaking in towards me from the other direction! At that point a quickly stopped hanging out of the boat! Flickr is being a pain in the backside for me just taken me about 20 mins to upload this image!?! Any page seems to be taking an age to load?

Another one from the Zoo visit and this time a Grey’s monitor (Varanus olivaceus) a large monitor lizard known only from lowland dipterocarp forest in the east of Luzon and a few smaller adjacent islands in the Philippines such as Polillo Island, where it is locally known as the butaan. It belongs to the subgenus Philippinosaurus. It is largely arboreal and extremely shy.

It is classed as vulnerable by the IUCN because most of its habitat has been destroyed over the last 60 years, and it is now thought to live in an area as small as 20,000 km², of which only around 2,000 km² are occupied by this species. It is thought that habitat destruction is not the only cause for the decreasing population trend, but that they are also still hunted for food and collected for the pet trade.

This guy wasn't sure what to make of the lens in his face -- perhaps because he could see his reflection. But as far as pet reptiles are concerned, bearded dragons are pretty friendly and calm.
