A new temporary car park has opened near Canterbury West Station, off The Spires. It was previously just unused land. It seems to be useful for rail replacement buses resting between runs (previously they just waited outside the station, causing traffic). It has provided a new photo opportunity with the grade II listed signal box in the background.
On the weekend this photo was taken, the line between Ashford International and Canterbury West was closed for maintenance, and here we can see an Alexander ALX400-bodied Dennis Trident. This was originally new to Stagecoach London in January 2004, with fleetnumber 17697 and original registration LX53JZK.
With YMS, it has been named Mutley.
Silicified fossil coral from the Middle Paleozoic. (centimeter scale)
Replacement is a fossil preservation style involving the crystal structure and the mineral of an organism's hard parts being changed.
The most common replacement mineral is quartz (silica) (SiO2) - fossils that have been replaced by quartz are said to be silicified (silicification). Many silicified fossils have rounded to pustulose structures covering their surfaces. These are called beekite rings, but they're composed of ordinary quartz.
Other common replacment materials include the mineral pyrite (FeS2 - iron sulfide) and calcium phosphate. These replacement styles are called pyritization and phosphatization.
Numerous other minerals have been found replacing minerals - many of them are quite rare. Reported fossil replacement minerals include: anglesite, apatite, barite, calamine, calcite, cassiterite, celestite, cerargyrite, cerussite, chalcocite, cinnabar, copper, dolomite, fluorite, galena, garnet, glauconite, gumbelite, gypsum, hematite, kaolinite, limonite, magnesite, malachite, marcasite, margarite, opal, pyrite, romanechite/psilomelane, siderite, silica/quartz, silver, smithsonite, specular hematite, sphalerite, sulfur, uranium minerals, and vivianite. (List mostly from info. in Hartzell, 1906 and Klein & Hurlbut, 1985)
This fossil is a silicified colonial coral having a honeycomb-like skeletons. Corallites are closely-packed and frequently have hexagonal outlines.

Provenance: modern fluvial clast derived from Pleistocene glacial drift; ultimately derived from a Middle Paleozoic unit - probably Devonian
Locality: gravel bar on the western side of the town of Chatham, northern Licking County, east-central Ohio, USA
The origianl French treaded screw on headset has been replaced with a normal MR+TB 1 1/8" threadless headset, but the top locknut has been retained to preload the headset. I have done this on 2 Peugeot Tandems and it works well.

I had to trim each of the 99 pins on the heatsink by 0.5cm, so it fitted under the DVD drive!
This larger heatsink replaces the fan+heatsink combination that the original Xbox shipped with. I used thermal tape to attach the heatsink to the GPU, which worked well and was clean and hassle free. The GPU operating temperature only increased by 1°C, which was better than I had hoped for.
At the same time I put some new thermal grease under the main CPU heatsink, which lowered its operating temperature.
My favorite shoes for the past three years are being replaced today. Luckily, the replacement pair it exactly the same shoe, but it's still different. I don't trust the new shoes.

Workers align the third rail to make sure it's in just the right spot for where third rail shoes under trains will make contact with it.
On Saturday, workers replaced third rail near Bryn Mawr on the Red Line Saturday to help ensure continued, reliable power delivery to Red Line trains in the area. The "third rail" (also known as "contact rail") is the electrified rail through which power is delivered to our trains.
One segment at a time, workers removed existing sections of rail and replaced it with heavier-gauge sections, which can provide better conductivity. Each section is seated on insulated third rail chairs, bolted together with adjacent sections and smoothed out at joints. Welders also come out and connect the rail to the power system using jumper cables.
The rail that's been removed will be reused for other important power delivery improvements, later—an efficient and sustainable practice we employ to make the most of the materials at our disposal.
The section replaced on Saturday morning and afternoon was on the Howard-bound Red Line track and measures in at about 1900 feet, or about 580 meters, in length. To put the heft of this work into perspective, the base, steel component of third rail that was installed weighs about 85lbs. for every three feet of rail—this doesn't include the weight of aluminum that's affixed to the rail for added electrical conductivity, bolts, insulators and other components that are a part of delivering power to trains. The total weight of the steel part of the rail moved just on Saturday is upwards of 52 tons.
Having finished over in platform 6, 31402 is now sat in the "Eastern sidings" as 55014 arrives in platform 4 at Kings Cross with 1A14, 1045 from Leeds. This was a replacement for an HST set. 20 January 1981.

My fuel and temperature gauge were both reading low. I suspected the voltage stabilizer was at fault. Unfortunately it is fitted to the back of speedometer which hard to get to. I had a spare speedometer with one could take off. The new one seemed to do the trick.
