I'm currently trying out the Windows Vista Beta 2 from Microsoft. As the minimum requirements officially include 15 GB HD space, 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM, I thought I'd try running it on my PDA phone, which has 32 MB combined memory/disk and a 0.233 GHz processor. I can actually check email with it, over my 19200 bps modem connection :)

This was done by logging into my home box through Terminal Services Client.

Here, i'm using Firefox to browse IntegratedElf.com while in the Yakuake terminal i have started Qemu (i suggest also adding KQemu) running a WindowsXP session.

XP is used to run VPN and RemoteDesktop so that i can work from home (of course, outside of the required 8-5 and on vacation days). I was browsing IntegratedElf.com/wiki on the remote machine for the screen shot, while also browsing IntElfs photos on flickr in the local emulated Windows session.

Looking for good ideas for your old 20th Anniversary Macintosh (TAM)?

Try turning it into an orchestra:

0. Procure GarageBand 2, and Jam Pack 4: Symphony Orchestra.

1. (Optional) Compile parts and assemble dual-processor 500 mHz G4 tower.

2. Install GarageBand and Jam Pack on G4 (or PowerBook).

3. Connect PowerBook (or G4) audio out to 20th Anniversary Macintosh.

4. Turn on and TAM with infrared remote. Sound is active in under 30 seconds, fully boots in under a minute.

5. (Optional) Use Musical Typing to control the G4 from anywhere in the house via the PowerBook and Remote Desktop.

6. Use Edirol PCR-30 to use expresive instruments like the Orchestra Tuba. Feel that bass!

7. Laugh at the dog, who looks quizzically at the TAM's subwoofer.

8. Turn off the TAM or put the TAM to sleep in one second with the remote.

9. (Optional) Put the G4 Tower to sleep in five seconds by pressing the white button.

when I try to use Remote desktop to connect to my home computer from my macbook pro at a cafe, this strange recursion happens. This is very strange. You can actuallly see each successive recursion changing after the next. The only way to get out of it is to power off completely.

Connecting to my 24" iMac with 19" secondary lcd.

A little wonky when the host router is using "double NAT"

The actual BTMM screen in System Settings says that it won't work properly because NAT Port Mapping Protocol is not enabled.

Need to find a better way before my free trial of Back To My Mac runs out in a few weeks.

This is the splash screen. Even that looks more refined then in version 2.

I finally got the work G5 set up with a second flat screen. Then, I wandered away to a meeting, and forgot to update something. So, I logged in via Remote Desktop and voila - both screens!

Very cool, but how am I supposed to read this?

[Update] Answer: Turn on mirroring.

300% zoom means no squinting to read and work on your files. Also saves money at the optometrist.

I usually listen to music in my favorite player, MediaMonkey.

What is unusal here is that I am using my iMac at home (outer box) running a Windows XP virtual machine (2nd box) which in turn is connected to my office PC using Hamachi/Remote Desktop.

My office PC is also running a Windows XP virtual machine (3rd box) that is running MediaMonkey (inner box, playing Norwegian Recycling). Phew!

Darren's back in the kitchen with an illustrated scenario of online brute forcing every systems administrators beloved remote desktop. He whips up some home made chicken noodle soup and tosses on the ol' white hat for a talk about countermeasures and security best practices. Then Matt brings you a full featured and aggressively priced alternative to Microsoft's own Terminal Service. Do I hear cheap thin clients around the corner?

Uploaded with Flickup on iPhone.

I downloaded Mocha VNC Lite from the iPhone App store and checked out how the my wife's Powerbook did with me controlling the computer remotely — thru my iPhone.

Works as advertised! This is a screenshot taken by my iPhone with the remote desktop UI in focus.

Will try on Windows Machine in the next couple of days.
