Being an educator means needing a lot of time to prepare lessons. But that doesn't mean your preparation has to always take place behind a desk!

Just like in this photo, with me, by the pool, reading up for my next lesson on biodiversity!

This time for the technology theme, I gathered up all the TV-related remotes we have in the house. (These control 4 TVs, plus all the related DVRs, TiVos, DVD players and sound systems.) We like our technology here.

DriveStrike’s Remote Wipe for iPhone is a very powerful tool that permits authorized admin to erase or delete data remotely from any iOS devices like iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It’s affordable, easy to setup and run. At the time of authorized DriveStrike admin initiates iPhone remote wipes online, in our Command center a secure wipe command is instantly ordered and a push notification fires, the remote wipe command erases all your important data from that device. Burglars hit a Las Vegas Yamaha dealership. The dealership was not a Stealth remote camera system client. According to the surveillance footage, eight masked suspects threw rocks at a display window until it broke. Three burglars entered the Yamaha dealership showroom. The thieves took four motorbikes. The whole burglary took less than two minutes.

Mk2 of the remote intervalometer thingy for my 7D.

Techy bit:

An atmel attiny13 micro runs some custom firmware that reads a 16 position rotary dip switch and pulses the IR led the canon fire shutter command at the appropriate interval. All run off a 3v coin cell battery that will run continuously for days (Stopped test after 5 or 6).

Need to find a way of showing the dial numbers on the housing so who know what you have set - laser etching it would be cool! Currently mapped intervals or 1 to 30 seconds which should cover me pretty well.

A trial timelapse is in progress right now...

We actually had a TV like this. I could never hear the show because the base speaker was next to my Dad. The upper portion (the tube) is connected with a 25' cable about the size of a silver dollar) to the base which controls the sound and channel.

I made it across the (tentative) border, felt like a great achievement, little did I know the real hard stuff was yet to come, and there was a lot more of it.

I setup our XTi on our Gorillapod with a 430EXII pointed at the ceiling. I set the shutter to 'bulb' and did my best to time things out using a wired remote.
