Jan 9 of my 365 Project, Nothing too exciting today, just an off camera flash test. This is me in my "old man" readers, sucks getting old!
Strobist info: Nikon D300, pop up flash set to commander, -3 stops ( just to fire other flashes and not add any light) on manual. SB 800 set to Remote on 1/4 power shot thru a Mini softbox. An old Sunpack 522 was used with a black wrap snoot and was set off using a "peanut" slave. ISO 200, F/11 at 1/60 sec.
not sure if i like the armrest controls or the new remote. the remote is a bit annoying to place back in its home.
also, movies are now on-demand so the movie starts when you want rather then missing the first 15-20 min because of in flight announcements
During a beautiful sunset on the banks of Loch Ossian, I look across towards the small islands and distant mountains.
I was staying in Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, just behind where this was taken from. It was one of the best experiences I could wish for living in some of the most remote moorland in the country.

My good buddy, Alan Cressler, and I recently visited a remote site in Clay County, Alabama for an Alabama endemic, Spigelia marilandica "candy-stripe" form. The common name for the species is Indian Pink. There are only two sites for this rare, unusually colored form, and they are both in Alabama.

Just an idea that I had for giving instructions on how to use the remote controls to people who aren't that tech-minded. You just scan the remotes, load the images into your favorite drawing program, and add some arrows & instructions.

I just received in the mail a new toy: a remote control for my D40. It took a little experimentation to figure it out, but I think I can make it work.

Gompas, Gönpas, or Gumbas (Tibetan: དགོན་པ།, Wylie: dgon pa "remote place", Sanskrit araṇya), also known as ling (Wylie: gling), are Buddhist ecclesiastical fortifications of learning, lineage and sādhanā that may be understood as a conflation of a fortification, a vihara and a university associated with Tibetan Buddhism and thus common in historical Tibetan regions including parts of China, India, Nepal, Ladakh and Bhutan.
