These days, I don't often share photos the same day that I took them, but every now and then there's a little more meaning behind one that makes me want to tell the story right away before my memory fades.
When famed photographer and fellow Troy native Jim Shaughnessy passed away in August 2018, I decided to attend calling hours. There, I had the opportunity to introduce myself to Jim's son, James. I briefly explained that not only had his father's work inspired me, but Jim as a person had been a very kind mentor to me. I had interviewed him for my senior thesis paper when I was attending Siena College, he was always a phone call or email away for any historical questions I had, and he graciously contributed to my first book. James later friended me on Facebook, where he saw a tribute post I had made to his father (you can see the post, which is public, here: www.facebook.com/tim.stockwell.587/posts/10100524475339363). I could tell that the post meant a lot to James, and that in turn meant a lot to me.
Well, today, James re-shared my post from 2018. I was surprised when I received the notification, but then I saw the reason: Today would have been Jim's 88th birthday. To see that my post was still helping James fondly remember his dad made my day.
Wednesdays are always my busiest work day, with a couple different meetings in different places in Troy, with the day ending with a soup kitchen for which I help recruit and oversee volunteers. In driving to the latter, I had some time to spare, and radio chatter tipped me off to the fact that CSX's B761 local was working in Troy. When B761 runs to Troy, it's typically a midday run. So, I knew that a rarer, afternoon run like this would afford some different angles. Also, on what would have been Jim Shaughnessy's 88th birthday, what better way to pay tribute than to photograph a train in Troy: the place where Jim grew up, went to school (RPI), worked, lived, and of course contributed so much to photographing Troy railroad history that is now long gone.
In this view, B761 prepares to depart Troy after picking up two refrigerated boxcars from K.C. Refrigeration. In the background on the right stands the steeple to St. John's Episcopal Church. The afternoon sun afforded an opportunity to place it in the photo, whereas normally it can't be included.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

It is with a broken heart that I post my soulmate MojoRisin Bloodstorm passed away from complications of a stroke on June 4th, 2021. Mojo was a very unique man, I called him my social butterfly. This is the song I walked down the isle to. We always said it was out song because it fit so well.

Part of my wedding vows to Mojo were:
"People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
We may not know the reason;
We have lasted many seasons;
And I will love you for a lifetime."
At the time I did not know what the reason was, but I have come to understand that reason. You gave me pieces of myself I did not realize were missing & you take a part of my heart with you. I never thought it was possible to love someone as deeply as I did you, especially someone you had never touched, seen, or even knew what they looked like. I was wrong. We had such a connection that people could feel the love we had.
I have had so many tell me how much you loved me. They could see it when we were together. I will take that with me for the rest of my life. I once ask you what took you so long to find me. You said you got here as quick as you could & I told you if you had only stopped & ask for directions you could have found me sooner.
I will carry you in my heart forever. You just said you were looking forward to celebrating our one year anniversary & sadly that will never happen. Just remember hubby of mine that you were loved more than I ever thought humanly possible. You will forever be missed. Rest in peace my sexy hubby from your loving wife.

This isn't a wonderful photo, but it is so summery, and so common around our house, here, for fruits to be ripening in a bag, that I went ahead and posted it.
Those are some sort of green plums in there.. I had never seen them before, and I can't remember the name of them. If we love them, I am sure I will learn their name!
(The 5th of November, when Jason last managed to get a railway photograph in the sun!!) Well it was actually in December, and it`s now the middle of February and still no shots this year! I had just been done on a 68 fronted test train down the road, and this was on my way home. I had recently uploaded a similar shot to this I took the year before, but decided to do a new one today, and in the dull to also include the church. Of course, the sun came out......... A shame that naughty test train was ahead of schedule.......
Anyway, back to this shot. Here we see the gatehouse to the Manor House at Ashby St.Ledgers, Northamptonshire. It was here, in the room above the Gatehouse, that Robert Catesby and the other conspirators planned the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. The church on the right is the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Leodagarius, which is barely visible once the trees are in leaf.

This image was made back when I was recovering from knee surgery last August. What a change 9 months has made! Now, instead of stuffing pastries in my mouth and lounging with a book in the morning sun, I'm lacing up my shoes for 10+ mile runs every weekend. The half-marathon is in 15 days!
Image made with my Nikon F100.
Featured today is a kitchen timer with words from a timed typing test in the background. "Get ready for a ten-minute timed writing." Does anyone remember those words?

Life can turn you upside down
Chew you up and spit you out
Tear you up it never ends
It goes on and on.
We will carry the laughter and silly times she instilled in us over the years and continue to tell her stories.
You were a good bean, Kanj.
Hold your friends tight.
Tell them you love them.
We never have long enough.

I ricordi,
i lunghi e durevoli ricordi,
eccoli già apparire:
melanconici e muti,

The vessel on the right side of the wharf is the former CNAV Bathythermographic Survey Vessel Ehkoli (Meaning whale in Chinook). She served as a naval auxiliary vessel until the early 1990s then she was sold for disposal. Built in 1942 for the Fisherman's Reserve she was transferred to the RCN around 1950. Her last job was as a torpedo recovery vessel based at Nanoose Bay.

Hypericum perforatum, commonly known as St John's wort, is a flowering plant in the family Hypericaceae. It is a perennial plant that grows up to one meter tall, with many yellow flowers that have clearly visible black glands around their edges, long stamens (male reproductive organs), and three pistils (female reproductive organs). Probably a hybrid between the closely related H. attenuatum and H. maculatum that originated in Siberia, the species is now found worldwide. It is native to temperate regions across Eurasia and North Africa, and has been introduced to East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of North and South America. In many areas where it is not native, H. perforatum is considered a noxious weed. It densely covers open areas to the exclusion of native plants, and is poor grazing material. As such, methods for biocontrol have been introduced in an attempt to slow or reverse the spread of the species.
The species produces numerous chemical compounds that are highly active. These chemicals are harmful to large animals, especially sheep, and help to deter herbivores from consuming the plant. Other chemicals in the plant, such as hypericin and hyperforin, have various uses in medicine. St John's wort has been used in traditional medicine since at least the first century AD, often as a cure-all or panacea. The oil from its glands can be extracted, or its above-ground parts can be ground into a powder called herba hyperici. In modern times, its use as an antidepressant has been the focus of numerous studies and clinical trials. However, the active ingredients can be very harmful or even lethal when taken alongside other medicines.
