Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten internment camps during WWII. Many of the people sent here were native-born American citizens. They were not spies. They were not saboteurs. They were not criminals. They were not prisoners of war. They were not foreign agents. They were held prisoner here for no reason other than their Japanese heritage.
Manzanar is located just outside of Independence, CA, about half way between Reno and Los Angeles along US 395. The remains of the camp are now a National Historic Site, which is open to the public and free. There is a museum about the Japanese Internment of WWII and life in the camps. A self-guided auto tour will take you through the site of the camp.

Description/what is shown: A green sea turtle nest was relocated 1/2 mile from South Beach to North Beach due to a FEMA berm restoration project beginning as soon as nests hatched, with any new ones requiring relocation. Volunteer Ruben Allen is relocating a nest.

This rather large shrub/tree has had to be uprooted from the spot where it has grown very happily for the last six years to make way for the impending building work. It looks a bit tatty as it's just gone through a very hard winter and hasn't started growing yet, but it's been a star performer in a garden that struggles with evergreens due to the clay/flooding situation. It used to be the first thing you saw when you came in so I'm sad to move it, but it seems to be settling in ok. It wasn't easy to move - mr aspidistra was a star digger but I had doubts that it would come out of the hole as it's really heavy. It was dark last night by the time it finally made it to its new home and we had to fill in the hole by torchlight. I just hope it survives.

Earl Ray Tomblin joined representatives from the West Virginia Division of Highways and the Federal Highway Administration's West Virginia Division Office on Thursday, March 26, 2015, to award more than $5.6 million in Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants to fund 42 projects across West Virginia.

June 27, 2017 - Docked in Fengdu, China. Our shore excursion this morning is to meet with families that were displaced by the flooding caused by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The family we were supposed to meet with wasn't home at our first stop. Their new house was built on the land right behind an existing family home. We visited the family in the original home and found out that their children moved to Xian. When the elderly couple can no longer take care of themselves their children must move back to take care of them in their home. They said they don't want to leave their home and move to the big city and live in a high-rise apartment block.
