Today I trapped cat #1 ...he's at the vet tonight and will have his plumbing removed tomorrow. After a couple days of rest he'll be taken back to his feline family.
Update: 12/3/09
He was returned to his "home" at 5:30 am.......now his hormones will dissipate and he won't be impregnating the poor female cats in this colony any more. I noticed there are at least four more males to trap.

I recently took a trip to land between the lakes national recreation area in Kentucky. A nature station there houses animals that for various reasons cannot be released to the wild. Two beautiful coyotes occupied one enclosure. One seemed very tame and came close to the fence. This one was very shy and reticent, although he looks a little more stern in this shot. It's so wonderful to see wildlife this close, but I was glad there was a fence between us.

This is a part of a flower and made this in the room (before the window) using the light from outside.
Mt. Rainier National Park.
I broke my cable release earlier in the night but thankfully I was able to get a good shot. The lake was mostly iced over so I put my tripod down low then scooted it out onto the ice so I could get a reflection in the unfrozen water. I could have used a high ISO setting so that I could get a proper exposure in 30 seconds with the self-timer but I didn't want all the noise. I ended up compromising between noise and possible camera shake. I used ISO 1000 and put the camera in bulb mode and then manually held down the shutter button for 56 seconds . Luckily I was able to hold still and the shot turned out pretty sharp.
