A second release from an early Spring trip to Death Valley. Like a lot of my trips to Death Valley with my family, this one held some trials and tribulations. We always have a good time, but we’ve come to expect some moments of discomfort or even frustration. The day I shot this post sunset image of badlands I had my first experience with getting a flat tire in the park. Getting a flat seems to be a veritable right of passage for those who often visit Death Valley, usually occurring down some gnarly remote road covered in sharp rocks. My story isn’t nearly so cool. I got mine while backing off a concrete RV pad. Yep, I somehow managed to run over a low lying mesquite tree which had the god-damn nerve to reach out and rip a gash in the sidewall of my A/T tire. Tire pressure alarm went off followed by a loud, short hissing sound. I knew instantly what happened. Nothing to do but show my son how to change a tire, throw the donut on, and go about our day. We decided to stay the night before bailing back to Vegas to get a new full size replacement, which gave me the opportunity to visit this section of badlands to capture this image. So, at least this image is one small consolation for an otherwise crappy day. But then again, even crappy days in Death Valley have a way of feeling special. This one included

No, that's not Jennifer Garner (I wish) but a fellow angler releasing a small grilse (a grilse being a one sea winter salmon weighing about 3 to 3 1/2 pounds) I caught on the Pinware River in Labrador. Since this one was just in from the ocean ( I fish mostly in the tidal pools) its colors were intense! The photo does not even come close to capturing the irridescent silvers, purples, blues, and greys!
As are most of them in the lower part of the river, this one was a magnificent fighter. The pleasures of fly fishing are many but the four main ones are...getting a fish to rise for the fly; actually hooking it...which,for me, is the ultimate pleasure; playing it...especially if it's a fighter; and the second best thing...releasing it. I like where the right hand is held in this photo but not that the head is out of water. The left hand, I hope you notice, is not pinching the tail of the fish... just supporting it. That is definitely a good thing.So, two out of three on the release style. This is my fish ... but, not me releasing it. It is an angler who was nearby.

DISCLAIMER:
Because of a few current Second Life limitations in the Rendering department, you WILL see some horizontal seams on the Experimental versions due to the material splitting so they'd work with the Alpha HUD. That is why I made 2 versions for each arm. One with and one without alpha divisions.
This issue will be fixed once PBR comes out and the new rendering system is introduced.
The Slim version is made for both those who think the original size is too large and to better fit clothes.
