Rejection Reasons

Content: Unsuitable Travel Imagery

Images do not convey sufficient visual appeal or feeling for the country or culture in question.

One of the heartbreaking things about visiting Donna Nook is no matter how often you keep returning to a pup and no mother is there, you do not know (unless you go back the next day) whether he/she will be reunited with his/her mother or not. Many cows fall asleep nearby in a pool of water, keeping an eye on their pup, or they disappear for 6 hours but do return. The absolutely heartrending thing is that not all of them return.

According to the wardens, this is usually because the mother senses something wrong with the pup or some daft eejit goes and touches the pup, or it smells of dog, which guarantees maternal rejection. The more inexperienced the mother, the more likely she will reject the pup if she is concerned.

This little one's mother was nowhere to be seen and despite coming back again and again, we didnt see her. Without food, they die within 3 to 4 days.

Every time we visit, there are always one or two pups who I worry about. Brings a tear to my eye knowing there is nothing that can be done. Good old humans eh?

“Men trust God by risking rejection. Women trust God by waiting.”

― Carolyn McCulley

Yet we also have known the smell of the ship holds, the bitterness of leaving, and a language to unlearn and another to learn quickly before the bicycle, and the fog of breath at the windows and the warm bread and the shame of rejection...

David Lynch directed in 1980, the film "The Elephant Man" based on the true story of Joseph Merrick, known as "The Elephant Man". Merrick was born in 1862 in Leicester. A year and a half after his birth, he began to suffer from malformations throughout his body, a process that accelerated and worsened at the age of five. Joseph Merrick suffered from Proteus syndrome, a hereditary genetic syndrome that manifests itself in the embryonic phase, due to a mutation in the human genome. This syndrome causes excessive skin growth, abnormal bone development and the formation of tumours in the upper half of the body. Joseph Merrick wandered for years at fairs and freak shows, where he was displayed for cruel mocking. Despite his illness and ill-treatment, Joseph Merrick was sweet-natured and polite, demonstrating in the last years of his life, where he achieved some peace and quiet, that he was a person of above average intelligence. Courage and bravery in overcoming his illness were his life's goals, always with gentleness, delicacy, politeness and in the face of society's rejection. Merrick died in 1890, at the age of 27. You can find this information in more detail at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Merrick. David Lynch's film is highly recommended. A sad and very hard film to watch, which shows us the goodness that can be kept in the soul, even being a strange and different person and showing us the other side of the coin, the cruelty and wickedness of those who consider themselves... "normal people".

The Australian white ibis is a native bird that is on the move. Ibis remind us everyday of the environmental challenges we all face.

Their tenacity and fearlessness as environmental refugees mean that they attract intense visceral rejections and groundswells of affection alike.

Ibis have infiltrated our daily speech and our cultural consciousness.

Indeed the ibis is fast becoming the new animal totem for thinking about the very idea of "Australia" today

Metamorphoses, Book III, Narcissus’s mother was told by the blind seer Tiresias that he would have a long life, provided he never recognized himself. However, his rejection of the love of the nymph Echo or (in an earlier version) of the young man Ameinias drew upon him the vengeance of the gods. He fell in love with his own reflection in the waters of a spring and pined away (or killed himself); the flower that bears his name sprang up where he died. The Greek traveler and geographer Pausanias, in Description of Greece, Book IX, said it was more likely that Narcissus, to console himself for the death of his beloved twin sister, his exact counterpart, sat gazing into the spring to recall her features.

Despite their vivid colors, Kingfisher are not easy to see. The metallic colors of its upper faces constitute indeed an excellent camouflage as it skims along the water on its short, vibrant wings. Fortunately they utter distinctive calls, emitted especially in flight, which allows them to be spotted. These metallic, high-pitched whistles are unlike any other. The kingfisher bathes especially during the nesting period, diving several times in a row, after which it smooths its plumage, stretches its wings and yawns. In total, this toilet can last two hours a day. Several times a day, it rejects a ball of greyish rejection containing fish bones and insect shells. At night, it sleeps alone in riparian vegetation, reeds or hollow trees.

A juvenile Pied Shag (mottled frontage) pestering the mother for food. This juvenile was one of the small chicks I saw on this nest in the middle of May. Three months later the mother is rejecting the juvenile and shortly afterwards the juvenile was in the water diving for food.

Pied Shags (named Karuhiruhi in New Zealand or otherwise known as the Pied Cormorant - Phalacrocorax) nest primarily in autumn when I saw chicks on this nest and again in the coming spring. Nest building is currently underway for spring.

His fishing technique is based on the lookout, perched on a branch above the water. He spots his prey by waving his head from right to left, then either spades directly, head first, from his perch, or performs a brief hovering before diving. He often comes back on his perch which he will use to knock out his prey before throwing it in the air to swallow head first.

The success of its fisheries is very sensitive to the climatic conditions, the rain disturbing the surface, or the turbidity of the water making the identification of the preys more difficult.

The kingfisher regurgitates balls of rejection, part of which is the layer on which the eggs will be deposited at the bottom of the burrow.

the Martin Fisherman of Europe is a bird that feeds on small fish and small aquatic animals. This is why he lives close to water bodies, where he can feed in abundance. Its spotted prey, usually from a perch, plunges violently into the surface of the water, catches it, then swallows it head first in the direction of the scales. If it is not in the right direction, it throws it in the air and catches it with agility in the direction that suits it. He swallowed his prey in one fell swoop. After digestion, it rejects by the mouth a ball of rejection constituted of the edges of the last digested fishes. The rejection of this ball is preceded by what looks like yawning.

Juveniles remain with parents for a couple of months only and here the mother was repeatedly rejecting approaches for feeding presumably as it was time for the juvenile to fend for itself. Over the first three years the plumage of juveniles will change from brown to adult colours.

I have reservations about posting a picture from a drone, but I was up there and it was a nice morning, and it came out nice so lets post it.

Part of my return to photography was a rejection of technology and AI photograph. And rather than climbing a hill to get a nice view here at the flick of a thumb is a view, I am having an internal argument.

Love in a mist - Jungfer im Grünen (Nigella damascena)

I already mentioned, more then once, that this flower is one of my favourites. Thats why I made this study from up close, without any distractions from the background. This design is really impressive, At least for me.

This flower used to be, by the way, the symbol of rejected love. Young woman used to send their admirers this flower to express their final rejection. Terrible thought, at least through the eyes of a man. When I realise how faszinated I am from this blossom, I may have received certains of them in a former life.

The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken (Dutch: Koninklijke Serres van Laken, French: Serres Royales de Laeken), are a vast complex of monumental heated greenhouses in the park of the Royal Palace of Laeken in the north of Brussels.

The complex was commissioned by King Leopold II and designed by Alphonse Balat. Built between 1874 and 1895, the complex was finished with the completion of the so-called "Iron Church", a domed greenhouse that would originally serve as the royal chapel. The total floor surface of this immense complex is 2.5 hectares (270,000 square feet). 800,000 liters (over 200,000 US gallons) of fuel oil are needed each year to heat the buildings.

The complex can only be visited during a two/three-week period in April–May each year, when most flowers are in full bloom.

A male Magpie-lark, or Peewee (Grallina cyanoleuca), walks the boundary fence and waits for food. They're very cautious birds, keep their distance but give no quarter to most other birds. I've tried to gain their trust, but they will have none of it; I handle the rejection, feed them and imagine they will relent (fat chance). These descendants of the dinosaurs have brutal winning ways.

Never give up.

It's like breathing—once you quit, your flame dies letting total darkness extinguish every last gasp of hope. You can't do that. You must continue taking in even the shallowest of breaths, continue putting forth even the smallest of efforts to sustain your dreams. Don't ever, ever, ever give up.

Survival can be summed up in three words - never give up. That's the heart of it really, just keep trying.

Rejection is a common occurrence. Learning that early and often will help you build up the tolerance and resistance to keep going and keep trying.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Drowning in the cold dark chasm of despair and longing, unable to breathe, waves overtake me and my wounded heart.

Then I surrender.

No longer tossed about on a sea of uncertainty, I start to float. My pulse slows and my heart heals.

Then I surrender more.

Focusing on the depths of truth and love, I find refreshing breaths of life and worth.

My heart beats in colorful tides and I am surrounded in warmth.

Then I surrender my all.

Ophelia lost her hope and her life to the cold waters of fear and rejection. She placed her worth in the wrong people and things. Resuscitation starts with the Breath of Life. Life and love is a process. Give yourself the grace of time. Progress is progress. Dory would say to just keep swimming. I say, why swim, when you can learn to walk on water?

Speaking of processing and learning...I taught myself a few new things this week. This photo is a double image done in Photoshop. It's something I have never tried before and I am enjoying the results.

I hope you all keep your heads above water during this holiday season and try something new.

Thank you for the kind favs and comments. They are always appreciated. Happy Sunday Flickr Friends!

Japanese Anemone / Anémone du Japon

My Garden / Mon jardin

St John's, Glynn, County Antrim, was designed by renowned architect Sir Charles Lanyon and built in 1841 at a cost of £800.

It was one of Lanyon's more humble projects. He is better known for his work in Belfast: Queen’s College (now Queen’s University), the Crumlin Road Gaol and County Courthouse, the Palm House in Botanic Gardens, Union Theological College and the Custom House, to name a few.

Lanyon's church at Glynn replaced a ruin (seen in the left of my picture) on one of the oldest ecclesiastical sites in the East Antrim area, with records dating as far back as the early 14th century. In fact, it’s said that Patrick may have founded a church here.

But that isn’t the only legend associated with the site. Local folklore says a nearby house was connected to the church via an underground tunnel and that there’s an iron chest filled with gold hidden within the graveyard. If only a rainbow would appear and show where to dig!

Today the rainbow is popular for a variety of reasons. Perhaps many don't know that the Bible recounts how it was chosen by God to be a memorial and a promise. It reminds us of God's judgement of mankind's wickedness that prompted Him to destroy all but Noah and his immediate family by a worldwide flood. You can read about it in Genesis chapters six to nine.

The rainbow serves as a promise that God will never again use a flood to punish a sinful world. But that does not mean that God is no longer angered by the wickedness of mankind and our rejection of Him. So the rainbow is also an important reminder that God judges sin.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

(Galatians 6:7)

A pair of kingfishers normally rear 2 broods a year, or 3 or 4, if conditions are favorable or if a brood has been destroyed.

The first spawning takes place in mid-March in Western Europe, a month later in Eastern Europe. From 4 to 8 eggs are laid one day apart on the floor of the laying chamber. They are bright white in color and almost spherical in shape. They have an average diameter of just over 2 cm and weigh little more than 4 grams.

The couple share, roughly equally, the brooding time and relays in factions from 2 to 5 hours. The incubation lasts three weeks and begins only once the last egg laid; hatching therefore takes place at the same time.

Naked at hatching and unable to maintain their internal temperature, the young are warmed by adults for a week, until they cover themselves with short feathers. Parents can then devote themselves to their food.

The fish brought to the young are slightly longer than those that the adults catch for themselves: between 4 and 7 cm, with a maximum of 10 cm. During the beak, the little ones, arranged in a star inside the chamber, are each fed during the first two to three weeks. It is the time when the ground of the nest is covered with their balls of rejection, and where the parents bathe often. A little later, the youths all turn to the inlet hose, huddled together, or walk down the hallway to meet the adults.

The magnificent staircase inside the Achilleion on Corfu, Ionian islands, Greece.

The Achilleion was a palace designed for empress Elisabeth of Austria (also called Sissi) with the mythical hero Achilles as the central theme.

It was Elisabeth's favourite vacation place and she built the palace because she admired Greece and its language and culture.

Alcedo atthis

After the ball of waste of the shrike posted yesterday, here is that of the kingfisher. The young Miss kingfisher sat in front of my hide at the bottom of the garden by the Ehn.
