This is a young African spur-thighed tortoise seen in the Houston Zoo, it is the largest mainland tortoise, reaching 30 inches in length and well over 100 pounds in weight. Some males even reach 200 pounds. This tortoise is a popular pet; it is bred and sold throughout the US, but as cute as the babies are, they grow quickly and many owners find them unmanageable and have to rehome them.

I recently visited APCA, an NGO for cats and farm animals, located in Uruguay in the department of Canelones.
APCA arises from the need to generate a safe place for the rehoming of colonies of feral, endangered or abused cats. They currently also have farm animals that have been rescued from human abuse.
The work they do is exceptional.
Among the animals rescued there are cases of cruelty, accidents, paralysis, cancer and other diseases, as well as cats that have been abandoned.
In viable cases, they are available for responsible adoption.

I've included Stanley, although sadly we lost him to lymphoma in August. The background photo was actually taken on Christmas Day 2021 🎄

Taken for the Crazy Tuesday theme of favourite Christmas decoration. This rather battered snowman was made by my son in school over 35 years ago and I have treasured him ever since! Sadly my son wants to rehome him so I may be saying goodbye to him soon! I tried to give the impression of him being in the dark of night with the Aurora Borealis lighting him up - yes I know it is a very awful shot but hopefully funny too!!
Sadly Stanley has crossed the Rainbow Bridge - he had Lymphoma. He came to live with us 7 years ago and will leave a huge hole in our lives. 😢💔🌈
