Westfield is a town in the western part Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 4,896 at the 2010 census. Westfield is also the name of a village within the town. Historical Village
Constructed in 1882, the historic Chicago & Northwestern Railway Stone Arch Bridge is is a popular stopping point along the Stone Bridge Trail that today runs along the former railway bed between Rockton and Roscoe in Winnebago County, north of the City of Rockford. The double-arch bridge, which crosses over South Kinnikinnick Creek, is made of dolomitic limestone. The bridge replaced an earlier wooden structure, and was a key element in the local sand quarry commerce which supplied Chicago, 90 miles to the east, with the necessary elements for masonry and concrete construction materials.
The C&NW RR Stone Arch Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Registered in Great Britain, this boat is a long way from home. I asked the owner about it and he said he thought he was heading for Australia. Ended up in a different Brisbane, in California. ;)
The Panamanian registered bulk carrier called “Federal Island” sits in the Nanaimo, BC., harbour, waiting to be filled with its next load to be transported to Malaysia. This bulk carrier, 200m in length, floated at anchor in the sun as we passed by on our way to Tsawwassen ferry terminal from Duke Harbour, Nanaimo. Ferry passages between Vancouver Island and the B.C. mainland offer spectacular views of nature and marine vessels.
A nighttime view of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. This photo shows the front entrance, which faces south toward the heart of Austin down Congress Ave. The capitol building was designed by Elijah E. Myers in Italian Renaissance Revival style, and was constructed between 1882 to 1888. At 308 ft. it is taller than the United States Capitol, and is the sixth tallest state capitol building in the United States. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
Old faithful erupts on June 28, 2019 in Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, WY. Thhis photo was taken from the bench near Beehive Geyser on Geyser Hill. Beehive’s cone, from which it gets its name, is in the right corner of the picture. To the left of Old Faithful, the Old Faithful Lodge is visible. The current Lodge is a descendent of the Shaw & Powell Camping Company that operated in the park from 1898 to 1916. Over the years a series of detached buildingd and cabins were built. Then starting in 1926 architect Gilbert Stanley consolidated them one complex. The lodge is li part of the Old Faithful Historic Distric listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1737, the gerbera plant was discovered by a botanist. This botanist worked together with a German doctor: Traugott Gerber. This is also where the gerbera gets its name from. After 18 photos of this small, west central Illinois community, today we say goodbye to Mount Sterling by offering a different view of the Brown County Courthouse, the place where our exploration began 20 days ago.
Completed in 1868 and rebuilt around 1940, the Brown County Courthouse is the second courthouse in the county's history. It is an anchor of the Mount Sterling Commercial Historic District that was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
The 1868 building was a two-story, gable-roofed structure with a pedimented central portico, five openings on each floor of the facade (a door and four large windows on the first floor, and five pairs of narrow arch windows on the second), and a tall cupola at the center of the roof. The courthouse lasted in this form until 1939, when fire largely destroyed the building.
But instead of giving up on the remains and constructing a new courthouse, the county government chose to undertake a three-year rebuilding process. The body of the building is largely the same as before, but officials chose not to rebuild the cupola, and the courthouse was given a hip roof. The rebuilt courthouse has continued in use into the 21st century.
The population of Mount Sterling at the 2020 census was 2,006, while the population of Brown County was 6,244.

OK, fellow Flickrers, just in time for Halloween, hop on the bus and follow me on a tour of the (thankfully former) New York State Insane Asylum. 'Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home'... This is considered one of Buffalo's most beautiful (?) buildings and is listed in the National Historic Register. Opened in 1880 and closed in 1974, most of the 10 major structures are abandoned, but the main building has been revamped as a hotel, though closed during Covid and yet to reopen. (Might make a fine location for a sequel to 'The Shining' if you ask me.)
