An evening beach walk along from Palagama Beach Hotel, Kalpitiya. Boat traffic wasn't heavy but it did seem to be the most popular way to get around.
A pre-breakfast walk along the beach from Palagama Beach Hotel, Kalpitiya. Very quite, very cool and lots of birds in the surf and on the sand.
This is probably a male, because I saw another pale colored specimen in the same pile of dried leaves. Both are running towards different directions, hence I was only able to secure this vibrant male for a few photos.
Other common names: Rough-scaled skink, Nicobar Island skink Sulawesi bronze bush skink, or Nicobar sun skink.
Synonym: Mabuya rugifera, Indraneil Das (2004)
Habitat: Primary forest, secondary forest, swamp forest and occasionally degraded forest-edge habitat.
Habits:
It is mainly terrestrial in habits, but is a fairly adept climber and may be found in low vegetation one or two metres above the forest floor. It often suns itself on the trunks of large trees, typically in a downward-facing posture. It feeds on small invertebrates.
Description: Its most obvious feature are the strongly keeled, overlapping scales, which give the lizard a rough, matt, non-reflective appearance: most of its larger scales bear at least 5 keels.

View from the bottom of artificially dried lake Karla. Today there is a project in progress to regenarate a big part of the lake, constructing enormous water reservoirs, which attract thousands of birds and a local species of fish is now thriving again!
Our last morning and a pre breakfast stroll along the beach from Palagama Beach Hotel, Kalpitiya. We were joined by a pair of the hotel dogs who took advantage of the cool air and the surf and had nice run about.

Frozen, in icy cold darkness, below roots hold
Waiting for the right moment to breach ground
To navigate a darkness
To find a place of light and space.

Our last few days on the coast were at Palagama Beach Hotel, Kalpitiya. We had a trail of ants walking across a path outside our cottage. Parts of the day when the sun was at the right angle the ants cast huge shadows. It was damn difficult to get a close up shot without a macro lens and it was uncomfortably hot.

An evening beach walk along from Palagama Beach Hotel, Kalpitiya. We must have startled this red-wattled lapwing from it's hiding place as it took off making a racket. I managed to get a few quick snaps.

This one reaching out to all the lovers who might be thinking of breaking up...
Or maybe even macking up...
I missed a part of you I can't get back
Don't be a silly nilly... I'm always here for you!
Through the thinck and thin, not just because we argue
See, I wanted to be true but i can't do that
Why not, what's stopping you?
Don't be preposterous.. I've got a lot of love, not just a lot of lust
If I only wasn't a fool,
I'd be loving!
Well that's your own opinion and ou're entitled to it,
I'll be lost in oblivion If we don't continue through it...
There's nothing wrong with you I can't fix!
I come a runnin' with my little bag o'tricks
In an emergency I'm very well prepared...
My scapel, mask and gloves, don't ever get too scared...
You're a miracle worker..
You're a surgeon of love (you have a medical condition)
Can't wait to fix me up... and I promise I'll be back again, if tou work your miracles on me!
Your mentaly was fresh it touched my soul (invigorating and refreshing, and interesting, and it feels right)
My heart was drowning in stress.. but you brought out the best in me!
My love and laser will regenarate your heart!
No need for anesthetics, i'll go check your charts
I will reshape you, recast you from the mold!
A brand new beatiful woman will blossom from the old!

This is Sodalime for rebreathers. It is Co2 gas absorbant used for rebreathing systems. Since my rebreather had a leak in the sodalime-scrubber housing i always had a shorter than planned dive because the granulate became wet from seawater and leaving the sodalime saturated but half used. Back on the camping i cook the sodalime in stainlesssteel pans on a low fire. From time to time i shuffle and hussle the pans so the lower part of the lime gets on top and lets the water evaporate. By doing so you can re-use the sodalime for a short dive. Sodalime needs some water content to function properly so when the evaporation shows less vapour i stop the gasstove and sieve the granulate in a stainless kitchen sieve. Tools you use for the regeneration process are the same for your camping cooking ( easy and practical ).
There is a chance you notice discoloring of the lime after the heating process. You see pink and white granules mixed with each other. It means the pink ones are Co2 absorbed and won't absorb so well anymore. The white particles are still usable for the rebreather. Since all is mixed thru each other you have to be careful in using the lime for your rebreather. A danger by using the sodalime this way is the Co2-HIT when you start to see moving stars or spots in your vision and when you feel out of breath. Get directly out of the water and back to the surface and breath fresh air. The symptoms dissappear then.
Since i dive close to the shoreline most of times and respect the depth limits for max. 10meters with 100% oxygen i normally can respond quickly but but that is how it works for me. On holidays i exchange the regenerated lime in my boat and continue my dives with a fresh scrubber filling.
I am not recommending diving used-regenarated sodalime. The dive duration is shorter and there is the danger of drowning.

Madely new centre taken around 10.30 at night I wanted to capture the stillness and the tranquility of a now regenarated and bustling community. In the background is the new Tesco store that has helped regenerate the area.
After a long days of rain, all you could see is a greener environment, places, and gardens. Makes me get back and think of nature. No matter what people do to tear our nature, it keeps on regenarating. As a matter of fact an island in the pacific was used for nuclear test shots, and after a few years, new life of excistence seen. How'd it happened? This is an amazing way of Jehovah to show us that we have to "live the life".
