Although worthless ... According to some this child has no right to education or health or proper nutrition or safety or future or anything ... Those beautiful eyes still shine they will be off much sooner what should
What future awaits this child? Live for 6 months in a field of stones under tarps that do not isolate nor cold nor heat nor ls terrible rains in the area! Winter comes, it's getting cold and these people have no deadlines, no answers ... Do not do miracles but if we can do that is more than what we do
When a look sums it all up !!!! Hunger, cold, fear, sadness, fatigue, mistrust. How sad to feel all that every day before turning ten!

The World Press Photo is not a conventional photo exhibition. The rawness of most of the images does not leave you indifferent. Many consciences are stirred observing so much misfortune and pain caused by a sick species called Homo Sapiens.
They are reflections of the thousands of misfortunes that occur on our planet Earth. Many of them close to our comfortable life.
This photo was taken at the contest held at the CCCB (Barcelona) in 2016.

But Irene is a volunteer from Holland and the child is a refugee from Afghanistan! A girl who has only smiles for us. Smiles hurt in the soul
Katsikas try to live in different countries, cultures and religions. A big surprise for me has been the Yazidi community. In Katsikas these are Kurds and Iraqis. They are a quiet peaceful and hardworking people.
Another shadow image, contained in my/our book BORDERWATERS, images from the West Bank.
This one was taken in Balata refugee camp in Nablus.
It is a Yazidi girl 9 years ... Not for quiet, break everything and always creates some chaos ... but we all want much to Martina, Today I receive bad news from the camp Katsikas ... Yazidis have again been threatened and had to leave the camp ... Once again they have to flee
A madrasah of Balukhali Refugee camp. Children's are attending a morning session of learning Quran, at Tangkhali Refugee Camp, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
Although those people who love me say that I wasting time, the past time the Katsikas is one of the best in my life. I learned, I felt, and I lived, And my dear Marta taught me many things ... Learning to put life backwards is one of the great pleasures ...
Cris is an exceptional benasque valley girl who has decided to leave everything to stay longer with whom she already feels like family !!! I went over there and take this picture may seem impossible is not a montage
It seems that they will have to spend time so this woman has decided to plant a small garden in the doorway of her tent .... They live in peace awaiting the decision of others to continue their way ... They lack everything!
The man who appears soldering in this image is a Syrian discus champion !!! He dreamed of the Rio Olympics and had the level to go to ... Instead he ended up in a Refugee camp in Northern Greece, with no rights or freedom ... The continuous solidarity of the people who have flocked to these refugee camps have made possible some small miracles. One of them was building a gym for all ... Qusai started soldering an iron, then another, then another ... And he got it.
It is amazing to be able to experience as those who have nothing offer you everything ... Mohammed is alone in the camp, he is always very sad and has planted an olive branch in the outside of his tent. In Syria he had a field and a family. Today with more than 60 years has nothing. He lives without identity in a continent that does not want him ... Every day I sat and talked to him for a while, he always shared what he was cooking with me.

At an IDP camp in Lira District, Northern Uganda
This image is from one of the many IDP camps in Northern Uganda. I was there most recently in June and July, providing technical support to two programs - a program to improve well-being of war-affected children run by Save the Children, and a gender based violence program run by CCF.
A Syrian Family Inside Her Tent In Qushtapa Refugee Camp, Erbil, Kurdistan, Iraq.
I first met them one year ago, in the same camp. They were just arriving, displaced by El Hassad army bombings on their syrian village. They just lived under a tent, without nothing and they just had some twins babies. Now they have built concrete walls around their tent, have TV, electricity... They will remain in this camp for years and years. The twins are called Hawler (the name of Kurdistan capitale in kurdish) and Kurdistan. Everything is overpriced in the camp and they spend huge amount of money just to feed the babies. Now, the father is in charge of the tea distribution in the camp. A serious job for those refugees. They are more than 1 million like them in Kurdistan.
Ahmad is a child refugee in the camp Katsikas ... He has not had an easy life, his face is marked by burns, is mistrustful and sometimes aggressive. needs urgent psychological help ... That day we get Ahmad wanted to play with us ... Ahmad confided that day ... That day he could smile like a child ... Finally

These refugee camps once housed millions of Afghans who fled after the Soviet invasion in 1979. The camps are massive and houses hundreds and thousands if not millions of people.
Some of the Afghans started returning after 2002, when the Taliban government fell.
The War on Terror was a reponse to the attack on the Twin Towers in New York on September 11, 2001. It changed the global scenario completely. George Bush Junior and his team wanted revenge and they got that by toppling the Taliban government in late 2001.
It did not end there. The Taliban started a guerilla warfare and many of them were pushed into the autonomous tribal belt of Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan. The tribes spoke the same language as the majority of the Taliban so they fit in well.
America and its puppet government led by Hamid Karzai complained that militants were crossing from Pakistan and attacking, then going back.
The Pakistani government led by Musharaf at the time did not take full action against the militants. They eventually became stronger and challenged the writ of the state in a number of north-western areas.
Public opinion against the Taliban in Pakistan was also turning. Pakistani intelligence organisations supported right-wing Islamic groups in Afghanistan as they were generally more pro-Pakistan. The current Afghan government is considered pro-India, Pakistan's arch rival.
The Taliban in Pakistan made some deals with the government but it began go back on its word and committed many human rights abuses.
Eventually it was not long before the Taliban tried to spread to other areas where most people did not accept them. This prompted the government and the army to take action against them and take control of the areas which had been taken over by the Taliban. Army action in the districts of Buner, Swat, Malakand, Dir and Bajaur led to millions of people fleeing their homes to other parts of the country. Most settled in nearby districts but some have travelled very far to be with relations.
These Internally Displaced People have a long road a head of them. In the short term most are not having their basic needs fulfilled. In the long-term the people will suffer because their properties will have been damaged, their livelihoods will have been disturbed and within the camps they will be exposed to all sorts of diseases.
Most of these people just wanted peace and being from poor backgrounds they want a decent income just to be able to feed their families. They are the real, silent victims of the War on Terror. They have been the ones to suffer the most because of the constant interference in this region by outside superpowers and lesser regional powers.
I hope people can donate some money to this very needy cause. We need to show them that they are not forgotten about and that one of them is just as equal a person to a life lost in 9/11.

3 August 2014 will remain the day the life of the yazedis has changed. Up to 200,000 yazedis people have been displaced from their homes in Sinjar City and the surrounding towns and villages when ISIS arrived by surprise .
The islamist group asked the residents to convert or die...Hundreds of Yazidis were executed as they refused. Most of the people left the village on time, fleeing on foot in the mountains, without nothing and most of the time without water or food , under a 50 degrees temperature. They walked for 7 days, including the babies and the elders. Many were killed, wounded or captured on the way. Now thousands are in Duhok in Kurdistan, and towns like Zoar when they have found a shelter for the winter. Some still have contacts thanks to the mobile phones with the relatives captured or trapped in Sinjar, but many do not have any news of their relatives and fear the worst...Until now, the town od Sinjar is seized by ISIS, where hundreds of Yazidis remain stranded months after fleeing their homes. But Kurdish peshmergas have regained lot of the ground lost to ISIS with the help of the U.S. air strikes. Sinjar is a strategic place as it would put the peshmergas on three sides of Mosul, the largest city under ISIS rule in northern Iraq.
