Cixiid Planthopper (family Cixiidae, tribe Pentastirini)
Spotted on a Seaside Daisy this morning.
I am reasonably confident of the ID. I will confirm or update once I get an answer to my ID submission.
Christmas Eve is a very busy night for Santa and his crew. Tinsel gas station provides a break to refuel the sleigh and rest the reindeer!
Tinsel and Treasures Taxi:
Two night black and whites today. Although perhaps this one might be more accurately termed "white and black". I took advantage of the arc lights at this self-service petrol station. Another example of how human workers are becoming obsolete. You pull up, swipe your credit card and fill up.
Refueling Station Hummingbirds have been very active recently, stopping by several times a day to fill up, found in North Carolina.
A Hummingbird Hawk Moth feeding on Buddleia in our garden today. I've neglected my macro shots this summer, so this was a lovely surprise this afternoon. Very fast and shy, quite difficult to get close to. I stopped to watch a butterfly, as I brought some washing in off the line and it flew in past my head! My only other previous shot wasn't quite sharp enough for me but went in as a new species. These moths feed on the wing and don't settle like butterflies.
Cabbage White (Pieris rapae)
Feasting on a Gazania, so intent on feeding it allowed me in very close.
😄 Schneider Kreuznach Xenar 105 f3.5, Blende f3.5 + Helicoid 36-90mm
It hasn't rained here for 2 weeks, we're eagerly waiting for the rain. Since yesterday it's finally been raining non-stop and we can hardly wait for the sun. Until it comes back, here's a picture from sunny times. 😄 Schneider Kreuznach Xenar 105 f3.5, aperture f3.5 + Helicoid 36-90mm
At the west bound refuelling racks at Belen, taken with permission from a very helpful security manager. At just 6 months old, 665 heads a west bound during the service stop. Thank you, Sir, for your help.
