The Bodleian Library, Oxford, takes the form of a quadrangle and central courtyard.

"The library currently holds over seven million volumes, which occupy 110 miles (180km) of shelving. Each year, the collection grows by more than 100,000 books and nearly 200,000 periodicals; these volumes expand the shelving requirements by about 2 miles (3.3km) annually. Much of the library’s vast storage space is in underground tunnels built in the early 1900s. A system of conveyor belts delivers volumes through the tunnels to 29 reading rooms in the various library buildings."

Last Sunday I found myself staring in a mirror.

Had been a while since I last saw my own ugly face.

Had been a while since I experienced running hot water and soap.

A zink, a toilet, soap, towels, electricity.

I was in heaven.

Even if not gone for long, things change and look different when you get back.

I was reflecting over good news and bad news.

I had been taken from the past and now dropped back in the future.

Time flies, in many ways and meanings.

This song was on "repeat" in my head on my way back home.

She actually caught the reflection, but I caught the light leaks. I can't decide whose catch was better...

Taken with Yashica Electro 35 GSN camera on a DM Paradies 100 film. Scanned with Canon CanoScan 8800F. Yashica is in an inoperable state, battery terminals are corroded, so camera works in unpowered mode, without the light meter, with fixed 1/500 shutter speed. This photo was probably taken with lens wide-open, at ƒ/1.7 - light conditions were rather poor.

(been scanning some almost-forgotten film from spring 2009...)

Reflections

Oakland, CA

There is a small duck pond in a business park in Greenwood Village, Colorado that I’ve always wanted to photograph, and I was fortunate to arrive during golden hour on a beautiful autumn day in early November of 2010. The photo was made with a used Nikon D300 and kit lens purchased the month before, and it was this camera that made the decision to switch from 35mm film to digital easy.

using a prism on-the-lens filter, i had a bit of luck capturing this. two separate bird flocks zoomed through the frame, with me barely focusing and setting the correct exposure. it was all over in a split second. after this frame i took another one, with the reflections all straightened but no birds - it's dull and cold compared to this one.

Katy Perry

Pop queen Katy Perry brought the UK leg of her Prismatic World Tour to a close at East London’s O2 Arena in support of her fourth studio album Prism for the lsat of four dates in the capital. As you might expect, the show was a spectacular feat of colour, light, theatrics and engineering to accompany hits from Perry’s back catalogue as well as material from Prism, including set opener Roar.

The show came with multiple theme and costume changes with the Dark Horse-singer switching between neon-tinged “Prismatic”, Egyptian, Cat-Oure (seemingly inspired by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical of the same name) and 80’s throwback themes. There was even an “acoustic” section of the show which saw the pace calming just a little and Perry sporting a moving butterfly hat while playing an acoustic guitar from the b-stage in the middle of the arena.

The show and banter was much the same as reported for the previous nights of the show so it was difficult not to take the obviously rehearsed crowd-interaction with a pinch of salt. Perry found “that guy who was dragged here by his girlfriend” to share a beer with during the acoustic section while Prism track Birthday had the 29-year-old finding a willing member of the audience who happened to be attending the event on his birthday - this time a girl - sitting her in a golden throne while singing and lap dancing for the girl on her big day. Nice.

The show closed with Teenage Dream hit Firework which saw Perry emerge in a colourful, almost Cinderella-esque outfit accompanied by pyrotechnics fitting for the song.

All that attended tonight were high on the energy of this pop idol Californian lady who really didn’t disappoint.

On a coach tour of Valencia on our Cosmos tour, October 15, 2012.

Valencia, is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, with around 800,000 inhabitants in the administrative centre. Its urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 1.5 million people. Valencia is Spain's third largest metropolitan area, with a population ranging from 1.7 to 2.5 million. The city has global city status. The Port of Valencia is the 5th busiest container port in Europe and busiest container port on the Mediterranean Sea.

Valencia was founded as a Roman colony in 138 BC. The city is situated on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, fronting the Gulf of Valencia on the Mediterranean Sea. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain, with approximately 169 acres; this heritage of ancient monuments, views and cultural attractions makes Valencia one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Major monuments include Valencia Cathedral, the Torres de Serranos, the Torres de Quart, the Llotja de la Seda (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996), and the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències (City of Arts and Sciences), an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. The Museu de Belles Arts de València houses a large collection of paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries, including works by Velázquez, El Greco, and Goya, as well as an important series of engravings by Piranesi. The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (Valencian Institute of Modern Art) houses both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and photography.

The original Latin name of the city was Valentia, meaning "strength", or "valour", the city being named according to the Roman practice of recognizing the valour of former Roman soldiers after a war. The Roman historian Livy explains that the founding of Valentia in the 2nd century BC was due to the settling of the Roman soldiers who fought against an Iberian rebel, Viriato.

It is not real..but image of the reflection of a landscape in the pristine waters of 'kalindi' river in Thirunelli (Wyanad district, Kerala, India). Set in the idyllic backdrop of Brahmagiri Hills and 'Narinirangi Hills', this beautiful village is adorned with streams, forests and paddy fields. It is famaous for Thirunelli Temple of Vishnu, where people come to wash away their sins with a dip in the mountain spring 'Papanasini'.
