Reflecting pool from the side of Washington Monument and looking toward Lincoln Memorial.
Some time back, I selected this photo and applied the HDR filter to see how it works.
Well, this was the result, but I couldn’t judge whether it was good or not. Anyways I did the tryout.

"Islands In The Sea" is described by the artist
"I created nine sculptures because in Thai the word for nine, gâo (เก้า), is a homonym for moving forward, gâo nà (ก้าว หน้า). It’s a reminder that, while grief never fully leaves us, we can soften its edges. Each sculpture is rounded, textured, and undulating, just like the organic nature of the sorrow living within us.
The entire process of making Islands in the Sea, of placing thousands of beads onto those sculptures, reflects the effortful journey of healing from trauma. I hope when people see the layered intricacies of the work, they can feel the multifaceted nature of grief on these landscapes."

Although the reflecting pool is drained for the winter it is still a great setting. Not a sole around this morning, but it was cold!

Up close and personal with our duck friend who is bobbing for fish in the Reflecting Pool at the National Mall in Washington D.C. Love that single, little tail feather.
People waiting for the Monks to arrive at their final destination at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. stand on the ice of the reflecting pool as the crowds begin to grow.
A beautiful statue depicting a forlorn-looking native American slumped over his horse stands in the middle of a large reflection pool with the wedding chapel in the background at the incredibly beautiful Top of the Rock in Hollister (near Branson, Missouri).
I found that using a prime lens instead of a telescopic one forced me to move around more... thus enabling me to get the sun in this position and capture the starbursts that appear in this shot. I do miss having a telescopic lens for the Nikon, though...

The monumental entrance of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, rises above a vast flight of steps beneath the clear blue Central Asian sky. Located beside the historic Hazrati Imam Complex, the center combines the architectural traditions of Central Asia with the functions of a modern museum, research and educational institution. Inside, the museum tells the story of Islamic civilization in the region, from pre-Islamic times through the great scientific and cultural renaissances of Central Asia to the present day. Its exhibitions include historical artefacts, manuscripts and modern multimedia presentations, with special attention to famous scholars such as Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Biruni and Imam al-Bukhari. The enormous portal is covered with intricate blue, turquoise and gold tilework, geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy. From a distance the architecture already appears immense, but it is the few people on and beside the steps who reveal its true scale. Almost disappearing against the monumental façade, they show just how imposing this entrance really is.
Sometimes it takes just a tiny human figure to reveal the true scale of the monumental Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
De monumentale toegang van het Center of Islamic Civilization in Tasjkent, Oezbekistan, rijst boven een enorme brede trap uit tegen de strakblauwe Centraal-Aziatische lucht. Het centrum ligt direct naast het historische Hazrati Imam-complex en combineert de architectonische tradities van Centraal-Azië met de functies van een modern museum, onderzoeks- en educatiecentrum. In het museum wordt de geschiedenis van de islamitische beschaving in de regio verteld, vanaf de pre-islamitische periode via de grote wetenschappelijke en culturele bloeiperioden van Centraal-Azië tot het heden. Bijna verdwijnend tegen de monumentale gevel laten zij pas echt zien hoe imposant deze toegang is.

Outdoor Symbolic Memorial
The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial stands on the now-sacred ground where the events of April 19, 1995, unfolded. What was once the footprint of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, Fifth Street, the Athenian Building and Oklahoma Water Resources Board are now the Field of Empty Chairs, Reflecting Pool and Rescuers’ Orchard. The memorial is an affiliate of the National Park System.
Canterbury Shaker Village - Meadow Pond Trail

Historic Canterbury Shaker Village is one of my favorite haunts. The Meadow Pond Trail is across the road from the village and very different from the rest of the site. It's much wilder and Meadow Pond was full of lily pads and beaver lodges. I believe it's the largest of the 4 ponds on the property.
Along the waterfront trail, I discovered this small reflecting pool. I stayed there for several minutes capturing different compositions, and soaking in the calmness of that location.

Sunset at the reflecting pool of Nelson Atkins museum in Kansas City.
Somehow, I stumbled into one of the top 5 sunsets of the year when I drove down for this photo. And I'm ok with that!
I used 3 different exposures for photomatix blending. I also layered in a foreground photo as well (focus stacking).
When I saw this I wasn't sure what it was or what it represented as workers were finishing the installation. Since then I've learned that it represents data visualization it reflects the global impact of food production and consumption on the environment. Part of the "Around The Table" exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden. I still don't understand it but it's nice to look at.

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, designed mainly by Valencian architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, is one of the largest cultural and scientific complexes in Europe. Inaugurated progressively between 1998 and 2005, the complex extends along the old bed of the Turia River, which was diverted after the devastating flood of 1957. In the image, the Hemisfèric stands out in the foreground, a building in the shape of a human eye that houses an IMAX theater, a planetarium, and a laser theater. On the right stands the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, dedicated to opera and the performing arts, with its 70 meters in height. On the left, you can see the structure of the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe. The intense sunset, with shades of pink, orange, and violet, is reflected in the water mirrors that surround the buildings, the central landscape element of the complex. Calatrava's organic and futuristic architecture has transformed this area into a tourist and urban icon of Valencia.

Image taken at the Christian Science Plaza in Boston, MA. The grounds along side the building are adorned by gardens, a fountain and a stunning 670 foot long reflecting pool.
The reflecting pool, designed by the firm of renowned architect I.M. Pei, is so large that the curvature of the Earth had to be taken into account to keep water from spilling over the sides.
The fountain design includes a cast-iron gate with 2-inch opening that allows 180 water jets to shoot directly out of the ground.
