My image references a figure from folklore, the Green Man - a forest-spirit symbolizing fertility and often represented by a foliate head and sometimes represented by a horned god. I found this satyr-like foliate mask on a Victorian-style sterling silver hairbrush made in Birmingham by Broadway & Co. probably in the 1950s, although this same pattern seems to have been produced over many years. I have tinted the image green to fit with my subject - the area shown measures 2.5" across.
