Just back from 5 days in Death Valley, stopped by Redrock Canyon on the way there...

Finally I found the time to go out and do a little bit of landscape photography instead of rummaging around in my archives. We had some decent light also. And after an almost cloudless day, one cloud decided to help us out and moved itself into the frame.

I had to work fast because the sunlight was fading quickly and by my second attempt at a panorama the shadow was already engulfing the entire mountain, except the very top.

I was initially attracted to the scene by that huge shadow the butte was throwing on to the rock face behind it.

Red Rock Canyon Utah State Park is a collection of interesting red rock formations along Highway 12. It is several miles west of Bryce Canyon National Park.

This is at the top of a trail at Red Canyon. There were breathtaking views all along the way.
