I wasn't necessarily going to mark this until a friend coaxed me into it. ;~))
first, I want you to know that this is a celebration of who *you* are and how you are, more so than this being a particular event for me, even though I won't deny it is very nice. you've been very kind to me. it is very humbling to realize the interest you have in my photography. this is, likewise, a two-way street. I can't begin to tell you how much your work and friendships have influenced who I am as a photographer and a person. I've enjoyed photography off and on for almost 30 years with one formal course in high school being the trigger to my interest in the medium.
stop and think about this for one minute > how beautiful the gift of sight is. without it, this unbelievable experience would pass us by. I'm not only speaking about just *seeing* images, I'm speaking about the ability to share oneself with images, thoughts, emotions, beauty and decay. I'm speaking about it being a safe haven full of support, encouragement, inspiration and friendship. how often have you found this particular type of experience in the course of your lives?
as you may have already experienced at some point, flickr became too much a part of my time during each day. a few months ago, I needed to scale back and spend more time really related to my family. hopefully you understand this. if I'm not around as often, my thoughts are with you and I am managing to do what I can, when I can while still trying to maintain a certain amount of balance in all the things that life contains.

Ondertussen weet ik dat het deel uitmaakt van een kunstroute in Puurs, maar ik vernam ook dat we in Mechelen ook zo'n bord hebben!

It's not often I make longer comments (for the record, I'm not antisocial; rather, I prefer to let the photos speak for themselves in most cases), but today is the kind of day when I feel compelled to give a shout out to all my contacts and to all the interesting people that I have run across in the flickr universe. From barely being able to compose a basic photo two years ago, to now, occasionally, being able to capture the attention of hundreds of like-minded photographers, flickr has helped me develop my skills and my style to the point where I could confidently say that this site has changed my life, the way I see it with my own two eyes, and the way that I interpret it through my photography.
Again, thanks so much. Your continued interest is such a positive force in my life.
