The former Southern Pacific route through San Timoteo canyon hosts UP 1996 West and two other diesels lugging double stack containers bound for the LA/LB ports past the old Adler house.
The last of winter’s snow clings to the higher reaches of the San Bernardino mountains providing the backdrop for UP 1989 East beginning its assault on the 1.3% grade on the west end of Beaumont Pass.

Equipped with all the bells and whistles we'd come to expect, a Southern Pacific SD40T-2 rolls east through Redlands, California.
UP C44ACM No. 6542 leads an elongated ILBG4-28 through the multiple curves found in San Timeteo Canyon trains encounter while traversing Beaumont Pass.
We are still getting some amazing colours in the sky at the moment from that Volcanic eruption in Tonga a few months ago.

UP 7036 East looking good in its fresh paint leads ILCG2 through San Timoteo Canyon’s east end at Hinda on its way to Chicago.

Although Cajon Pass (top left) receives the lion’s share of attention, San Timoteo Canyon also offers scenic semi rural vistas in which to frame one of the countless trains UP runs on their famed ex-SP Sunset Route. With the help of my drone, a little elevated perspective helps highlight the numerous curves encountered by eastbound freights, in this case ILCG2, climbing the 1.92% grade between Ordway and Hinda.

UP 1996 made a brief appearance at Alessandro Road on Sunday afternoon as it sped through the citrus groves in San Timoteo Canyon with westbound ZMQLC 19.
