Going through the red gates that you can see on a couple of my other photos, you're greeted with this magnificent view of the little castle.
Underneath the French doors on first floor (the same doors that feature further down my photostream) is a statue of Hercules holding up the balcony on his back. The guide book tells us that the balcony and French doors were installed by William Cavendish, who finished the interiors of the little castle in 1621.
I liked this view, the castle being framed by the large, imposing red gates. I think the fisheye effect adds to this framing as well as making more of the scene visible.
When we ride over to Highland County Virginia we know the day is going to be all about the views. This photo was taken high up on a ridge looking into one of the valleys of Highland County. I would Love to have a little cabin here to come to on the weekends and just spend time soaking in all the beauty this place has to offer!

Yueh Hai Ching Temple is a Chinese temple in Singapore.
The current structure of this shrine dates back to 1850 and then was substantially renovated in 1895. Since then, it has undergone several restorations.
The temple is an expression of a Taoist temple of Chinese architecture.
The roofs of the gates have the most unusual ornaments. Human figurines rea displayed everywhere, depicting scenes from Chinese operas that illustrate the courageous and meritorious deeds of the gods and ancient heroes of Chinese legend.
This structure, located among the vineyards near Criação da Velha on the Island of Pico in the Azores, is typical of homes in the region. It was built using blocks of basalt, a volcanic rock. While some structures in the area are coated with plaster and painted, this one has been left in its natural state.
Pico is known for its rich vinicultural heritage.. The vineyards surrounding Criação da Velha are part of a protected cultural landscape in Portugal and are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
.
The volcanic flow, where the vineyards grow at Criação da Velha, dates back approximately 1,500 years. The basalt blocks used to construct this house were likely sourced from local quarries on the island.
Somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley, but I don't remember where! Anita and I travel so much, unless I mark the photos right away, I lose track! Happy Sabbath to all, and a great weekend! I have entered some photos in an art show tomorrow and that is a first for me, so it should be interesting.....
This photo taken not too far from the Conway river in my previous post. This little gravel road was lined with these huge boulders, I'm guessing that were taken from the stream beds and river as they were all filled with them. The red gate led to a "tree farm". Today for the first time in the couple of years that Anita and I have gone adventuring on a Sunday we are going our separate ways.... she is off to Great Falls in northern Virginia and I am off to Fredericksburg to photograph the gardens at Chatham manor with our photography club. I'm hoping she doesn't try rock hopping at the Falls and fall in! LOL Have a great day everyone!
10,000 Kilometres, and 2,000 photo's in one week.....
This was my holiday...Day 3 WA Southwest, on to Redgate Beach to catch the sunset...12 hours of driving/taking pic's later....sigh....
We are in Japan again, currently traveling up north to Akita. This photo is from last spring, when we went to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine. It has thousands of Torii, or red gates.

Redgate is a rather steep road (I believe it is 1 in 4) coming up from Padfield. Once a year it is used for a race, where participants race to the top carrying a bag of coal - the men carry 20kg, women 10kg. I haven't seen the race as yet but it sounds quite an event!
It was a little cooler this morning, so I took a stroll around Redgate Park in Rockville. No birds unfortunately this time, but the scenery was nice.
We really don't deserve animals, and yet here they are to fill our lives with happiness.

After photographing the Namahage Sedo Festival in the Akita Prefecture we decided to fly to Sapporo in Hokkaido to take winter photos. We spent a few days in Biei, a hilly area that has nice trees. This morning it was snowing. From the road we saw this Torii with a tiny Shrine behind it. We walked over a field in deep snow to take photos of this serene scene.

When I first saw a picture of the Fushimi Inari Shrine, I hoped that one day I would go there. And my dream became a reality in 2019.
Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha) is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.
Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice.
The torii gates along the entire trail are donations by individuals and companies, and you will find the donator's name and the date of the donation inscribed on the back of each gate. The cost starts around 400,000 yen for a small sized gate and increases to over one million yen for a large gate. However, along the way, there are multiple smaller shrines with stacks of miniature torii gates that were donated by visitors with smaller budgets.
Could be everywhere ....

Excerpt from ckrumlov.cz:
The gate is found at the entrance to the Ist courtyard of Český Krumlov Castle from Latrán between the houses Castle No. 46 - New Pharmacy and Castle No. 57 - Salt house.
From the street Latrán the gate is made up of a double winged wooden gate embellished with the Schwarzenbergs coat-of-arms carved in its upper part. The gate is set into a brick arch with a corner of blockstones. The semicircle barrel vault in this place gradually transforms into a segment arch on the side facing the Ist castle courtyard. On the floor above the arch is a connecting corridor leading into the Minorite monastery. The saddle roof is simple and is covered with hollow tiles.
In the beginning, a gate used to stand in the wall of the advance fortification of the Lower Castle, then in the course of the 15th century new working quarters were gradually added onto this wall. In the last quarter of the 16th century the area, which had been continuously built up, enabled such demanding tasks as the multi-level corridor connection of the castle with the monastery and the garden in Latrán - Nové Město (New Town). The gate received its present-day form in 1748 while the wooden railing dates from the 19th century. The gate gets name from the traditional red paint.
