Class 26 3450 Red Devil nears Nuy, with a speiail goods train between Worcester and Ashton .27/05/2002.Red Devil was built in Germany in 1953 as a class 25NC,rebuilt in South Africa to L D Porters gas producer combustion system in1981.Test carried proved it could produce 40 %more power with 30% less coal and water.The draw back was slipping when starting off,due to loss of addhesion with the extra power.This was proved after starting off after a photo stop ,with a very light load maybee 150tons ,on a no more than 1in70 gradent 3450 slipped and slithered to the summit ,giving some severe jolts to the passenger in the rear coach.
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness - pear is 'Conference' apples are 'Red Devil' - bit like a Cox, but slightly sharper with distinctive pink flesh.

Apparently all Australian Red Devils are a Hybrid between A. labiatus and A. citrinellus
